Leon Joseph Cooper

Leon Joseph Cooper, affectionately known as "Pop" or "Gable", son of Leonard and Helen Cooper, was born December 22, 1933 in Baltimore, Md. He departed this life on February 10, 2017 as Sinai Hospital in Baltimore, Md. Leon received his education from Carver Vocational Technical High School, he was honorably discharged 1958. Following his military career he became the chief custodian of Baltimore County Public Schools. He married Lottie Cooper and from this union one child, Adrienne Cooper, was born. In 1976, he married Emma Jean Cooper. During their 41 years years of marriage, he was a proactive and devoted husband who often boasted of his wife's good cooking. Leon touched everyone he came in contact with ; you either liked him or not, but he could care less either way. There were no gray areas with him. He was a "Be true to Thy Own Self," strong and courageous man. Most loved him for his witty and authentic personality. Leon was a thorough king guy. One thing for sure and without a doubt, he loved his family and close friends. In his younger years, he was the life of the party. When he and his brothers came together the family knew they were in for a good time and shared a lot of laughs. He was known by his neighbors and friends for being outspoken and throwing great cook-outs in the back yard where he would grill delicious ribs. He would pull out a pellet gun in a heartbeat to protect his family from neighborhood strays, like squirrels. Even after retirement, Leon styed active and on the move. He often visited family just to stay in touch, or friends at the senior center to play cards. He loved taking home improvement projects and watching old westerns and classic clack and white movies on T.V. He bragged on every one of his grandkids and great grandkids who he loved so much, and he'd make them cucumber salad whenever they would visit. Being around family gave him so much joy. Leon was proceeded in death by: his parents, Leonard and Helen Cooper; brother, Leonard and Benjamin Cooper; sisters, Louise Thomas and Edwina Cooper and step-son, Johnny Sanders. He leaves to cherish his memory; his beloved wifr Emma J. Cooper; one daughter, Adrienne Cooper; four step- children, Sheila Makell (Charlie), Sarah Brown (Mark), Veronica McDaniels (Allan) Roan, Barbara Rooths, Janet Barkesdale and Saundra Butler (James); two brother, Bruce Cooper (Loretta) and Edwin Cooper (Betty); eleven grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren; a host of caring nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
