Leon Coley

LEON COLEY, SR., affectionately known as “Lee,” was born on December 8, 1944 to the late Lewis and Betty Coley in Littleton, North Carolina. The gates of Heaven opened without notice on Thursday, January 12, 2012 at Union Memorial Hospital. At an early age he accepted Christ at Zion Hill Baptist Church in Littleton, North Carolina. Leon received his education at Mack Ivory in North Carolina. He moved to Baltimore, Maryland at a young age with his parents, the late Lewis and Betty Coley and his siblings. He received his education from the Baltimore City Public School System and Vocational School. He later went to work for BG&E for several years and then found his passion in fixing cars. In 1985 he met Carrie Hurt which later she became his wife and soul mate. With this union they were blessed with one son, Deon L. Coley. He was preceded in death by his stepson, Terrell Smallwood. Leon was a people person. Everyone loved him. He would help you if he could with a smile on his face. Lee, as we knew him, if called upon could fix anything that was given to him, but his passion was being an auto mechanic. Lee, jack of all trades, was there for all that knew him. Even on days that he wasn’t feeling well he would still be there for you. He was always the life of a party, he could get you going like he could start a car. His laughter, great sense of humor and the good deeds he’s done in his life will truly be missed by all that knew him. He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Carrie Coley; six children, Leon Coley, Jr., Demestraus Coley, Eric Coley, Danté Coley, Parobé Coley and Deon Coley; seven grandchildren, Tameka, Chéquan, Briell, Eyan, Terrell, Charrell and Christian; four sisters, Catherine Myers, Betty Glover, Jean Alford of Baltimore, Maryland and Panther Burns of New York; seven brothers-in-law, Robert Myers, Rico Alford and Wert Watson of Baltimore, Maryland, Arthur Lee Glover of North Carolina, Verdae Burns of New York, James Mark of Pennsylvania and Jessie Barrett of North Carolina; two sisters-in-law, Joyce Watson and Dinah Barrett of Baltimore, Maryland; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
