Lena M. Jones

Lena Maria Jones, daughter of the late Thomas J. and Blossie M. Jones, was born on August 5, 1949 in Baltimore, Maryland. She departed this earth on September 9, 2015 after a short illness. Lena received her education in the Baltimore City Public School System. She attended Edmondson High School and continued her studies at what was earlier known as Community College of Baltimore taking courses in Criminal Justice. While attending CCB she became a cafeteria worker in the Baltimore City Public School System and later worked her way up to Cafeteria Manager, a position she held until she retired in 2009 with 30 years of service. Prior to retirement she held various other jobs such as Service Coordinator conducting assessments for lower income clients to verify if they were eligible for Meals on Wheels and later a Wal-Mart Sales Rep. She married and later divorced Larry Pailin and from that union three daughters were born. Lena's strongest talent (that she was most proud of) was being a mother and grandmother, which gave her pride and joy. She had a tremendous love for GOD as a child and her faith in GOD became even stronger in later years. She looked forward to weekly Bible Study with her sister Sylvia, which she continued until the day she was called home. Lena enjoyed life and people, making friends wherever she traveled. She was a great conversationalist and would spend hours conversing with any and every one on any and everything. She enjoyed cooking and was well known for her fried chicken, sweet potato pie, bread pudding and banana pudding. Her hobbies were playing games on the computer, being an extensive reader and would spend hours reading book after book. She belonged to several book clubs and would even travel great distances in search of a particular book. The Phase "To Know Me is to Love Me" summed up her life and the essence of Lena. Lena was preceded in death by her siblings Lottie and Thomas Jr. She leaves to mourn: three daughters, Larrine, Lisa, Lynn, and one son, Lamont; one son-in-law, Joseph; two sisters, Sylvia and Marcella; three brothers, Henry, Malik and Rodney; one brother-in-law, Kenneth; three sisters-in-law, Diane, Debbie and Charlene; sixteen grandkids and seven great-grandkids; devoted lifelong friend and companion, Bennie Singleton; best friend and confidant, Mildred Booker; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
