Mr. Lawrence McCraw Johns

LAWRENCE McCRAW JOHNS, son of McCraw and Catherine Johns, was born on July 6, 1943, in Baltimore, Md. He departed this life peacefully on February 17, 2024, at Northwest Hospital Hospice surrounded by his family and close friends. He is preceded in death by his father McCraw Johns, mother Catherine Johns, and brother Michael Johns. He met and married his high school sweetheart Janis Taylor and had two children, Eric and Kelly. Lawrence received his formal education in Baltimore, Maryland and attended Edmondson High School. After graduating from Edmondson High School, he attended Morgan State University where received both his Bachelor of Science Degree and a Masters Degree in Education. He is and will always be a lifetime Member of the Morgan State University Alumni Association. The Association is an elite group of alumni committed to the support and continued success of their beloved alma mater. He was also an active Member of the Alpha Phi Omega Fraternity whose Cardinal Principles are Leadership, Friendship and Service. He taught at several schools throughout Baltimore and was Assistant Principal at Chinquapin and William H. Lemmel Middle Schools and later became the Principal of Diggs Johnson Middle School. Lawrence was a devoted and passionate educator. He believed in not just teaching a curriculum but instilling important values and preparing students for life beyond the classroom. After retiring from the school system as an educator, he took a position as a Title 1 Program Manager and Administrative Assistant for Middle and Elementary Schools. He was a devoted father and grandfather and always wanted what was best for them. On weekends he would take his grandchildren to baseball games, dance, gymnastics and swimming. He loved being around family and enjoyed dancing at family gatherings. He enjoyed the outdoors and could often be seen taking care of his flowers and mowing his pristine lawn. Lawrence loved to play golf and exercise. Ensuring financial freedom and stability and maintaining his weight was of utmost importance to him and he always encouraged others to do so. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He leaves to mourn: his brother, Bernard Johns and sister-in-law, Victoria Johns; son and daughter, Eric Johns and Kelly (Johns) Daniels; three nieces, Kyra Rollins (Josh), Salihah Johns and Tatyana Liason; six grandchildren, Tyisha Johns, Dominique and Dimitri Johns, Maliyah Johns, Skylar Daniels and Giselle Daniels; five cousins, Lucille Cummings of Alabama and Alberta Fennoy, Oscar Little Jr., Ronald Little, Toni Little; five second cousins, Kevin Liles, Aaron Liles, Keith Cummings, Tiffany Fennoy, Teia Fennoy; and a host of other relatives and friends.
