Laura P. Grissom

Grissom I am a native of Warren County, North Carolina, daughter of the late Sandy and Ella Myrick Powell. Educated in the Warren County Public School System, I am a graduate of John R. Hawkins High School. I attended North Carolina College at Durham (North Carolina Central University), a cum laude graduate, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics My work experience: Teacher: Virginia Theological Seminary and College, Lynch burg, Virginia and John R. Hawkins High School, Warrenton, North Carolina. Mathematician: Department of Defense, Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland, from which I retired more than 30 years. I am married to Bennie Grissom and we are blessed with three children; Ella Juanita Taylor (Clifton L. Taylor), Bennedean Faye Grissom, and Keith Grissom; five grandchildren: Bettina Judd, Justin Harvey, Bryan Harvey, Keith Grissom II, and Teyah Hart; and one great-granddaughter: Zyla Nicole Harvey, I have two sisters, Katherine P. Gordon and Margaret P. Alston and a host of nieces and nephews. Having been reared in a Christian home, I was led to accept Christ as my personal Savior at an early age, and followed Him in baptism at the Spring Green Baptist Church, Warrenton , North Carolina. After relocating to Baltimore, I united with the Zion Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Dr. Robert Moses William Presently, under the leadership of Pastor Marsahll F. Prentice, I am continuing my walk with God. In order to become more rooted in God's word, I attend Sunday School, Wednesday Daytime Bible Class and Various workshops and seminars. Formley, I was Young Adult Sunday School teacher, Co-chairperson of the board of Trustees, Financial secretary of the Anniversary/ Revival Committee and sang with the “Voices of Zion” choir. My service in order Minister of Zion include: The Board of trustees. Dea Charlie Wilkins Outreach - Minister to the spiritual and financial needs of those facing eviction or gas and electric turn – off. Food Pantry – Distribute foods to needy. Safe Heaven Network – provide temporary shelter for children who find themselves in frightening situations while walking to and from school. Math and Science - Make projects available to Youth interested in enhancing their knowledge of Math and Science; provide tutoring service, (formerly) My hobbies are writing poetry and reading. A significant Scripture in my life is Joshua 1:9, “Be strong and of good courage, be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed, for the Lord thy God is with three whither soever thou guest” “If I can help somebody as I pass along, if I can cheer somebody with a word or a song, If I can show somebody he is traveling wrong. Then my living shall not be in vain.
