Laura Frances Macon Battle

Laura Frances Macon was the oldest born to the late Elnora and Holiday Macon,Sr. on April 24,1944. She peacefully went to receive her reward in Heaven on August 24,2011. She was preceded in death by her brother Major Macon. Laura grew up in New Kent County,VA and was educated in the New Kent County Public School System and attended Virginia State University for two years. She later attended Cosmetology School and worked as a licensed beautician for years. She retired from VCU Health System in the Department of Medical Communication and later returned and worked as an hourly employee. In June,1967 she was joined in holy matrimony to James E. Battle,Sr. and to this union God blessed them with two wonderful children. They were the joy of her life and it was obvious by the love,discipline and Christian values that she instilled in them as children that have followed them into their adult life. She was also a devoted grandmother to Boss and Happy Feet(which are the names she lovingly called her grandchildren). She was involved in their care and loved having them around. Laura joined Lebanon Baptist Church at an early age and remained faithful until God called her home. She was a member of the Mission Ministry and the Inspirational Choir. Laura loved to travel and she showed it by all the wonderful places she visited in her life time.She had a passion for cooking and was an excellent cook. Laura could make a full meal in the blink of an eye. You would never leave her home hungry. She also loved clothes and was not afraid of colors. This was shown by the flashy clothes she wore,with class and style. You would never see Laura without her make up ,nails done and her different choices of hair styles in place. Along with these things she always wore a beautiful smile. She always had fun and lived life fully. Laura leaves to cherish her memories her loving and devoted children,Merinda Ford(Stefan)and James E. Battle,Jr.,sister Shirley Hall,brother,Holiday Macon,Jr.(Jacqueline);two grandchildren,James E. Battle,III and Vanessa Ford;a loving friend Bernard Artist,a devoted cousin,Flora Clark;ex-husband,James E. Battle,Sr.devoted friends,Mamie Kelly,Linda and Calvin Hall,Edith and Lewis Harrison;a host of nieces,nephews and other relatives and friends. Laura's legacy of courage,compassion,generosity,strength and sweet spirit will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
