Lattie Robert Dark

Lattie Robert Dark, son of the late Lattie and Lucy Dark was born September 21, 1940 in Richmond, Virginia. “On August 6, 2019, the Lord sent an angel that called my name, and took me by the hand and said my place was ready, in heaven far above, and that I’d have to leave behind all those I dearly love.” Educated in the Richmond Public Schools system, Lattie worked for the City of Richmond and retired after 34 years of dedicated service. The Church of Christ became his spiritual home where he was a devoted member. Sunday morning service and Wednesday night Bible Study were two of his favorite times because, as the van driver, it gave him more time to fellowship with members who rode with him. Those members and anyone else who knew him, knew how much he loved his daughters and grandkids. Lattie’s love of baseball granted him the opportunity to play shortstop with the Pittsburgh Pirates in Kingsport, Pennsylvania and Hobbs New Mexico, as well as, with the Richmond Blue Sox. Baseball was not the only sport he enjoyed; he was also an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys. He was preceded in death by his son, Robert Dark; sisters, Laura Coley, Lista Henson, Carolyn Cortaro and Estelle Dark; brothers, Walker, Willie and Frank Dark. Lattie is survived by his wife, Katrina Dark, devoted daughters, Tanya Woolfolk (Alonzo Johnson, Sr.), Zolita Dark (Collin Coleman) and Rachel Dark; stepdaughter, Nikie Griffin; stepson, Walter Depriest III; seven grandchildren, Ronee Holmes, Jatanya Woolfolk, DeAngela Mines, Keona Wootton, Christopher Cook, Rashad Dark, Raquel Dark; great-grandchildren, Zatara Holmes, Laylah Cook, Amania McGee and Elise Wotten; two sisters, Elinor Dark and Yvonne Coleman; three brothers, Joseph Nelson, Reymond and Jesse Dark; two brothers-in-law, James Hewson and Eugene Price; a host of devoted friends, among them Jimmie Bailey and Mrs. Chew. Lattie finished his assignment and accomplished his goal. It is clear that Jesus is Lord, and beside Him there is no other. Lattie instilled values and truths that will last a lifetime and will forever be remembered. Lattie, a gift to us all, still lives.
