LaTanya Lennette Thomas Wright

LaTanya Lennette Thomas-Wright was born in Halifax County, North Carolina on December 6, 1970 to Jean Thomas-Banks and Johnny Handsome. She went home to be with the Lord on May 6, 2010. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents William Thomas and Josephine Kearney, and paternal grandfather Solister Handsome. LaTanya spent many of her earlier years in Weldon, North Carolina and attended Weldon Elementary School. She later relocated to Richmond, Virginia and graduated from Huguenot High School, Class of 1989. She continued her education at Norfolk State University and graduated in 1995. On July 13, 1980, LaTanya was baptized at First Baptist Church in Weldon, North Carolina. Beginning her life in Richmond, she attended Richmond Christian Center, and later she and Patrick joined St. Paul’s Baptist Church. She was a member of the Couples Ministry and loved the service of this ministry. She was also involved in the New Comers Ministry. She was joined in holy matrimony to Patrick Wright on April 24, 1999 and to this union one child was born, Elijah Bryce. LaTanya was a caring and devoted wife, mother and daughter. She loved her family and you knew it. While LaTanya was soft spoken in her voice, she was a very vibrant young woman who loved to dance and had a real zest for life. She considered herself fashion conscious and tried to express that most of the time, but had no problems with sweat pants and t-shirts. She loved people who were honest and caring and was drawn to them and they were drawn to her. She was a comedian and could lighten up the conversation with a laugh. She was always thinking of ideas to begin a new adventure. As a realtor with Long & Foster, she had a passion and she loved it. Her career was physical therapy; she felt this is where God gave her the opportunity to touch and lay hands on her patient, and she truly felt their distress and that of their families. Her compassion was always there, but her passion was being a realtor. LaTanya was sweet, had a beautiful smile and precious heart, she persevered, and her love will always be remembered. Those left to cherish her memories are her husband, Patrick B. Wright; son, Elijah Bryce Wright; step-daughter, Nicole Willingham of San Francisco, CA; mother, Jean Thomas-Banks (Charles) of Midlothian, VA; father, Johnny Handsome of Roanoke Rapids, NC; siblings, Pamela Avent, Shanta Johnson and Jarrett Johnson of Weldon, NC; grandmother, Annie Handsome of Roanoke Rapids, NC; aunts, Evelyn Thomas of Weldon, NC; Ella McKay of Durham, NC, Teresa, Ella Mae and Mozella Handsome of Roanoke Rapids, NC and Gwen Valentine (Ronnie) of Newport News, VA; uncles, Howard Handsome of Roanoke Rapids, NC; Curtis Worsley (Ella) of Durham, NC; Rev. Curtis Thomas-Williams (Mildred) and William Thomas, all of Baltimore, MD; mother-in-law, Carol Wright of Georgia; father-in-law, William Wright of Connecticut; brothers-in-law, Jeffrey Wright (Yolanda), Christopher Wright and Matthew Wright of GA; nieces and nephews, Zakiya, Ny’azia and Jarrett Jr. of Weldon, NC; Khaniya Thomas of Richmond, VA; Ashley, Jordan, Joshua, Tyler and Michael-Shawn of GA; extended family includes, Linwood Thomas (Brenda) of Washington, DC; cousins where were more like sisters, Kina Thomas and Marvella Scott of Richmond, VA; Mia Thomas of Weldon, NC and Syreena Valentine of Newport News, VA; cousins/nephews, Joyce Butler, Eugenia Johnson, Quintus Jakell, Jamari and Cameron Thomas of Weldon, NC and hosts of other loving cousins and relatives. Friends forever are too numerous to name but include: Kim Allen-Woolridge, Karin Smith, and Veronica Baptist her friend and partner at Long & Foster.
