L'Tanya Paulette Carmichael

L’TANYA P. CARMICHAEL (a.k.a. Tammy), daughter of the late James and Elizabeth Curbeam, was born on December 9, 1957 in Baltimore. She was a proud graduate of Eastern High School. Early in her life she was baptized and became a faithful member of New Friendship Baptist Church serving on the choir and usher board, and later became a member of Zion Baptist Church. In 1975 Tammy met the love of her life Larry Carmichael, (who preceded her in death). Out of this union two children were born Larrisha and Lanesha Carmichael. She began her employment career at Stella Maris and later at Rosewood State Center as a Development Disability Associate, where she became life-long friends with Serita, who called her “Mikey”. After dedicating 30 years to serving others, Tammy retired in 2009, leaving behind a legacy of compassion and kindness. Tammy had a variety of hobbies and interests that filled her days with joy and creativity. Tammy loved cooking, playing Garden of Times, Candy Crush, solving puzzles, talking on the phone, sewing, drawing and cleaning to music. Above all, Tammy’s greatest happiness came from caring for her loved ones, showering them with love and affection. She leaves to mourn: two daughters, Larrisha and Lanesha Carmichael; three siblings, James Curbeam Jr. (Lisa), (Charles Curbeam who preceded her in death), Helen Yvette Curbeam, Towanda Browder (Nick); four grandchildren, India, Ky’ree, Sean, and Zyaire; four aunts, Pinky Miller (N.C.), Willa Mae Anderson (W.Va.), Rebecca Ray and Beatrice Curbeam (MD); twelve nieces, Makeda, Shaniece, Netty, Rakia, Deborah, Shirley, Cynthia, Denisha, Aeronita, Shareece, Tiffany and Ebony; nine nephews, Eric, Dwayne, Dennis, Curtis, Allen Jr., Andre, Jamal, Jody, and Tony; two brothers-in-law, Marvin (Wanda) and Allen (Leslie); four sisters-in-law, Lisa Curbeam, Queen (Ulysses) Ann (James), Jeanette, Leslie, Wanda; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends whom she loved dearly. Lastly, the family acknowledges and give a heartfelt thank you, to Bed of Roses’ Ms. Esparanza, who Tammy loved immediately and called Ms. Moreen. Esparanza attended to Tammy daily with patience, a smile and laughter. Esparanza, you embodied God’s love, care and compassion. The family is forever grateful for the care you provided for our Tammy, and your “Tammy Girl”. Rest in peace, Mommy. Your journey here has ended, but your spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved you.
