Kevin Windell Ross

Kevin Windell Ross, son of the late Blango E. Ross, Sr., and Rosa Lee Cheatom, was born on November 17, 1961 in Baltimore, Maryland. He departed this life on January 10, 2002 after a brief illness. Kevin was an active child from the day he was born, and everyone who met him knew he was a mama’s boy. He had a way of getting his way. He grew up in East Baltimore and attended Baltimore City Public Schools. After leaving school, his first place of employment was at the National Aquarium in Baltimore, and wouldn’t you know it, his position was a tour guide because he loved to talk. Kevin educated himself and could talk on anybody’s level about any subject. He learned well, and once he learned something, he never forgot it. He had the mind of an elephant as some would say.He held a variety of jobs after leaving the aquarium and played many roles. He worked at Johns Hopkins Hospital, did home improvement, worked at the racetrack, Rockwell Industries and Town State College. He was a baby-sitter, a male nurse, a dietician, a jock of all trades and master of none, who loved everybody, especially his family. His hobbies included playing music, listening to music, dancing, yes dancing, fishing, buying fish for his aquarium, watching baseball, basketball, boxing and all types of entertainment, especially the stone Soul Picnic Jam held a Druid Hill Park yearly. Kevin’s motto was “I don’t lie, I gotta tell the truth, even if it’s on me.” Although he had not been attending church on a regular basis, he was baptized in December of 1986 at the St. John Christian Community Church. He rededicated his life to Christ in February of 1996 and knew that God was the only one keeping him. He held onto his faith. Devin was grateful and had high regard for all of the doctors and staff that served him during his visits and admittance at Bay View Hospital, but was especially thankful to Dr. Michael Fingerhood, who was not only his doctor, but his friend. He leaves to cherish his memory: his devoted mother and step-father, Rosa Lee and Oscar Cheatom, Sr.; one daughter, Shanida Ross; step-mother, Sophia Ross; five sisters, Rosalind Johnson, Yvonne Wilson-Bey, Rene Cheatom, Towanda Williams and Anethia (Lelo) Thomas; five brothers, Reginald, Eddie, Blango Jr., Melvin and Oscar Jr.; two brothers-in-law, Michael Johnson and Aaron Williams; godmother, Geraldine Sharp; adopted mother, Phyllis Felder Cheatom; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, a host of other relatives and friends.
