Kenneth M. Jones

KENNETH MELVIN JONES, (SANDY), son of the late Harry and Addie Jones, was born on May 16, 1942 in Baltimore, Maryland. He departed this life peacefully on February 3, 2012. Sandy loved and trusted the Lord and at an early age gave his life to Christ. Later, as his health began to be a concern,he was not able to attend service as he wished. He received his education in the Baltimore City Public School System and Participated in numerous athletic activities, demonstrating outstanding skill and talent as a Dunbar High Poet basketball player. After graduating from Paul Laurence Dunbar High School in June of 1960, Sandy served his country by enlisting in the United States Army. He was honorably discharged in 1963. in July of 1969, Sandy married Mildred Nunnally Gordon. This union was blessed with two children, Lisa and Kevin.. Sandy was employed with the United States Postal Service as a Letter Carrier. He truly believed and lived the letter Carrier motto, because neither rain, snow nor dark of night kept him from his appointed rounds. His retirement began December 31, 2003 after many years of faithful service. Sandy loves to cook and often prepared meals for family and friends. He always wanted to make sure everyone had plenty to eat. Making cookies brought him the greatest satisfaction and the variety was endless. Even after retirement, he would bring various goodies to the station for his former co-workers. One of Sandy's favorite hobbies was traveling with family and friends and he would frequently tell of his trips to Las Vegas and cruises to the islands. Often he would be seen jogging along Hillen Road and around Morgan State University until his health prevented such rigorous activity. In later years Sandy would make the remark to all within ear shot, “ Don't get old.” Sandy leaves to cherish his memory: daughter, Lisa Hawkes; son, Kevin Jones, Sr.; three grandchildren, Monique Hawkes, Kevin Jones, Jr. and Kaylin Jones; sister, Dolores Camper; three brothers, Warren (Bobby) Jones, William(Bill) Jones and Imani Mwandishi, formerly Calvin Jones; son-in-law, Darrell Hawkes; daughter-in-law, Dionne Wright Jones; brother-in-law, Russell Camper; sister-in-law, Francine Mwandishi; devoted friend, Sharon Wormley; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
