Kathleen Ranson

KATHLEEN THORNTON RANSON, daughter of the late Eustace Sr. and Effie Thornton, was born on November 18, 1937 in Baltimore, Maryland. She was the third eldest of twelve children. Four brothers, Ellwood, William, Dwayne, and Eustace Thornton, Jr. and two sisters Mender, Montgomery and Ida Thornton preceded her in death. She departed this life on July 11, 2006, after a long illness. She married the late Shirley Ranson, Jr. Out of this union, five boys were born, one preceded her in death (Antwan Demarcus Ranson). Kathleen gave her life to Christ at an early age at Faith Baptist Church. She attended Baltimore City Public Schools. She was a member of the 1955 graduation class of Dunbar High School and attended Cortez Peters Business School. She loved jazz music and took private piano lessons. She held teacher assistant positions with the Baltimore City Public School System. She also worked as a Nurse Assistant at City Hospital, currently known as Johns Hopkins Hospital at Bayview. She loved helping others. She was a socialite and enjoyed conversing with people especially her childhood friends. She loved watching TV shows and horror movies, crocheting, sports, and cooking. She was known for baking the best sweet potato pies. Kathleen was a very knowledgeable and gifted person. She could tell you the history of her family and just about anything else you wanted to know. In the last months of her life, Kathleen fought many battles, but always remained positive and optimistic about her condition. She truly believed in God and read the Bible daily. Her daily scripture readings gave her the strength she needed to complete her earthly journey. She leaves to mourn: four children, Patrick D. Ranson, Shaun D. Ranson, Terrence S. Ranson, Orlando "Bino" Ranson; two daughters-in-law, Tammy Ranson, Shannon Ranson; two grandchildren, Oman Ranson and Briasia Ranson; two brothers, Ernest Wall and Reginald Hayes; three sisters, Diana Winkler, Josephine Knox and Veronica Shannon; seven brothers-in-law, Charles Shannon, Rubin Knox, Milton Ranson, Norman Ranson, Charles Boyd, James Jones Sr. and Bernard Burnell Sr.; ten sisters-in-law, Julia Wall, Rev. Sis. Carrie Jones, Ringoldia Burnell, Delores Gregory, Glorious Wooten, Dorothy Ranson, Debris Ranson, Joyce Ranson, Pearl Purnell and Bertha Ranson; one step mother-in-law, Mildred Ranson; very dear friends who she admired like sisters, Mrs. Beulah Lang, Mrs. Roberta Graves; and a host of other relatives and friends.
