Katherine Mae Scott

Katherine Mae Scott (nee Jackson), affectionately known as “Kitty”, departed this life on August 12, 2010. She was born on July 30, 1920 (the sixth of eighth children) to the late Harry and Vergie Jackson in Boyd, Maryland. She came to Baltimore as a child, receiving her education in the Baltimore City Public Schools. Katherine was married to the late Elisha B. Scott in 1958. Out of this union they raised her sons Gerald B. Williams and Kareem Abdul Ali. Katherine began her nursing training at Maryland General Hospital in 1960. She loved her profession as a Private Duty Nurse, serving the sick tirelessly and with dedication. Katherine joined the Central Baptist Church on February 26, 1968, serving under then the late Associate Pastor William McCoy, where she continued to serve faithfully under the leadership of the late Pastor Montaque J. Brackett and Pastor Lorenzo Long. She was a staunch and loving member of the Central Baptist Church, having given her life to Christ at an early age. She served in many organizations in the church, which included singing with the Gospel Chorus and was a long standing secretary of the Hattie L. Floyd Church School Class. In tribute to her role as Secretary of her Church School Class and the Gospel Chorus, her spirit will be cherished by her family and many associates. Katherine was very prim, proper and meticulous with her attire. She had quite a sense of humor, loved to talk, smiled a lot and was well loved by all who came in contact with her. She was always eager to help those in need. Katherine was a gourmet cook who enjoyed entertaining family and friends. Her specialty was beef brisket, collard greens, big brown potatoes, great “sopping” brown gravy and chicken dumplings. Katherine leaves to mourn: her two precious sons, Gerald B. Williams and Kareem Abdul Ali; two sisters, Ruth Smith and Elenora Jackson; sister-in-law, Marguerite Johnson; daughter-in-law, Deborah Ali; one grandson, granddaughter and great-granddaughter; two special friends, Marsha Rostek and Ruby Lutey; nieces, nephews, cousins, church family and residents of the Coleman Manor Apartment, and also Rev. Roscoe. Her two brothers Leroy and William preceded her in death. Two earlier marriages ended in divorce.
