Julian P. McMeans

JULIAN PAUL McMEANS was born in Chatman, Alabama on February 24, 1925. He was the son of the late Richard and Perlie McMeans. Julian went home to be with the Lord on January 22, 2006. He departed this life peacefully after an extended illness at Northwest Hospital. He successfully completed his high school education from Chapman High School in Chapman, Alabama in 1943. At an early age Julian had ambitions on joining the military; on Oct. 5, 1943 he received his wish when he was drafted into the United States Army. Julian had a well decorated military vocation receiving the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Combat Infantryman Badge, European Medal with three battle stars, Good Conduct Medal, and a World War II victory medal. During his stint in the military he married Mildred Lindsey and from this union he had one son and four daughters who lived in Philadelphia, Pa. He was honorably discharged on April 5, 1969. After twenty-four years of marriage, Julian and Mildred McMeans divorced in the year 1973. Julian got married a second time to Betty Gilmore until they divorced in 1978. She had three children that he loved - Marchell, Donna, and Nancy Gilmore; and her grandchildren, Damon, Carla, Larissa, Dayna, Helen, Herbert, and Andrea. In 1981 Julian met and married Mary Hill, his present wife, whom he loved and cherished. When you think of Julian, or Mac as many people called him, you think of love, laughter and the joy of living. His indisputable warmth and amusing disposition drew people to him and sparked friendships that lasted through many years. He had the gift of advising young people from the wisdom of his experience leaving you with the feeling that tomorrow would be a brighter day. He was a Soldier of Soldiers who truly enjoyed life with a constructive outlook. To celebrate his homecoming and rejoice in his memory, Julian leaves: his loving wife, Mary McMeans; her daughter, Ramona Hill; her grandchildren, Simone, Marissa, Derrick, Ciera, Jason and David. Julian would want to mention his close sister and brothers also from Alabama, Musetta McMeans, Ruthie Mae Wilson, Aguilla Wilson and Juliette McMeans and brothers Ananais, Richard Vorger, Leo and Will. He leaves to cherish his memory in love: his six children, Yolonda Barnwell, Yvonne Couser-McMeans, Juliet McMeans, the late Yvette McMeans and Nathan McMeans; his grandchildren, Lamarr Couser Jr., Pamela R. Bailey, Jacinthia Rice, Nathan McGill and Donald McGill. Julian also had a son he loved, William Thompson who married Sherry and they have three daughters Nicole Thompson-Shields, Siobhan Thompson and Eileena Thompson; five great-grandchildren; a host nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
