Julia Mae Williams

Julia Mae Williams was born on July 9, 1941 to the late Mary Ann Arrington Perry and the late John Plummer Perry. She departed this life on Sunday, February 20, 2005 at her home in Dover, Delaware after suffering a lengthy illness.She received her education from Vaughan Elementary School in Vaughan, N.C. and North Warren High School in Wise, N.C. She received further educational training at the Baltimore City Nurses Training School, Baltimore, Md., and continued at the U.S. Public Hospital Medical Academy, Baltimore, Maryland. She was married and separated from Gilbert Thomas in 2002. She has received numerous certificates in the area of substance abuse prevention and has founded a spiritual intervention/prevention process called “The Spiritual Approach to Alcohol and Other Drugs of Abuse”. She became a guest presenter at many conferences and a lecturer at many of the historically Black Colleges and Universities across the country. She was also offered an Honorary Doctorate Degree from Howard University in Washington, D.C.She had seven children, two of whom preceded her in death-Vanessa Julia Williams and Lynwood Williams, Sr.Leaving to cherish her memories are her five children, Jesse Norman Williams, Jr., and Michael Anthony Williams, of Dover, Delaware, Thomas Andrew Williams of Baltimore, Maryland, Greta Tilghman and Jerry Williams of Dover, Delaware; three sisters, Mary Dorsey of Baltimore, Maryland, Millie Macklin and Alma Jackson of Dover, Delaware; two brothers-in-law, Stonewall Jackson of Dover, Delaware, and Jimmy Dorsey of Baltimore, Maryland. She had five daughters-in-law, Gloria Williams, Donna Williams, Tina Williams, Mingdora Williams, and Shanna Douglas; two sons-in-law, Bishop James Tilghman, Elder Ronald Shelley, a special niece, Yolanda Perry, caretaker, nine adopted children, Margaret Shelley, Sandra Musilla, Sharon Rowlett; caretaker, Thomas Douglas, Sandra Cherry, Cynthia Williams, Pamela Smith, Karen James and Stephanie Morris, extended family through the late Delores Church, Vanessa Jackson, Tina Moore and Eric Seward, and a spiritual Mother, Pastor Rosie Johnson, twenty three grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
