Juanita Walters

Our beloved Mother Juanita Walters, loving daughter of the late James and Gertrude Young was bornin Baltimore, Maryland. She was married to the late Rudolph Walters. On Sunday, September 20, 2015, Mother Walters quietly slipped into the hands of her loving Savour Jesus Christ whom she faithfully served for nearly 41 years after a lengthy illness. She finished her course, she fought a good fight of faith, and now laid up a crown of for her righteous crown and eternal life. Mother Walters you have won the race. Juanita, known to many as Mom and Mother Walters received her education in Baltimore City Schools She left school (Dunbar High School) early to care for her mother and siblings. As a young woman she moved to Anne Arundel County and her passion for cooking earned her the position as Head Cook in a few of the county’s most affluent eating establishments. Mother Walters used her experience as a caregiver to become a housekeeper and nurturer to various families. When her father became ill, she once again stepped in and cared for him until his death. She was born to care and love people. In 1967, Sister Brice, than met Mother Walters young step-sister, they became friends. When Sister Brice got saved in 1969 several years later, Sister Brice invited Mother Walter’s step-sister to her church where she was a member, at The Church of Lord Jesus Christ. Later, Mother Walters and her father were baptized and they both received the gift of the Holy Ghost. Mother Walters committed her life to Christ and never looked back and that was in the year of 1974. God called Sister Brice to Pastorship in 1979 and Mother Walters was led by the Holy Ghost to move her membership from the Church of Lord Jesus Christ to work with now Pastor Marie Brice. When Mother Walters saw the need to help her Pastor, she became the Pastor’s housekeeper and cook for many years. Pastor Brice and her late husband (Deacon Elmore Brice) and children fell in love with Mother Walters cooking. She was excellent in everything she did and Pastor Brice’s youngest child, Saon became her little baby boy. Saon used to be in the kitchen when she cooked and observed her cooking habits and today he is a renowned chef. All Pastors’ children had a special place in her heart but there was always a “special bond” between her and Neicy (Pastor’s Brice’s oldest daughter). Neicy was very special to her and she was very special to Neicy. Over the years Mother Walters referred to Neicy as her granddaughter. Neicy made sure holidays and her birthday were celebrated in a special way and she looked forward to those moments. She was the most pleasant person ever to be around and had a great sense of humor. Mother Walters has fed and nurtured many saints and friends down through the years, and even took some into her home to live until they because responsible to be on their own. Mother Walters had a group of faithful saints who stepped in and cared for her by bringing her food, fruit, doing her laundry, cooking her meals, going to the store, make doctor’s appointments, etc. The list of names is too long to name all but they know who they are and God will reward you for your acts of kindness and dedication. It was greatly appreciated. Mother Walters love for children caused her to become a foster parent for many years, until her health began to fail. One thing those kids could say is that Mother Walters loved and cared for them with all her heart and they could rest assure that there always was good food in the house. When you think of Mother Walters, her good cooking comes to mind first. She was an excellent cook. There was not anything that she could not cook. Just ask a few people about her famous “baked macaroni and cheese”. Mother Walters, known as the first mother of the Pentecostal Church of Deliverance has been with the church since the inception of the church 36 years ago. Mother Walters was a great financial supporter to the church. It was her faithfulness, dedication, and perseverance that helped to build and mold the foundation of PCD. She held many positions in the church such as: Head of Kitchen Committee, Pastor’s Personal Assistant, President of the Usher Board, President of the Missionary Department, Member of the Pastor’s Aide Committee, Member of the Sunday School Department, Head of the Communion and Baptism Committee, Member of the Missionary Choir, Member of the Banquet Hall Committee, and has served on the Mother’s Board until this day. Mother Walters is a great example of what a Woman, Mother, Grandmother, and Christian should exemplify. Mother Walters leaves to mourn her loss and to cherish her memory and legacy of service: two children, Anthony Walters Sr., a dedicated son (Vivian) and Kwanza Walters, her devoted daughter who stood by her mother’s side and loved her dearly. Gerald Demby was another son whom she raised as her own. Grandchildren: Darlene White, Charlene Johnson, Anthony Walters, II and Antoinette Walters. Greatgrandchildren: Montanae Smith, Anthony Walters, Aryana Walters and Chakaya Ellerbe; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends. Mother Walters had many, special friends in her life over the years; however, we make honorable mention of a few: a special daughter-in-law, Vivian Walters, Juanita Brooks, Deborah Marcelle, Charlene and Bruce Curtis, Prophetess Maria Nock (Mercy Medical Center), Evg. Gloria St. Louis, Evg. Julia Turner, Cynthia Rogers and Denise (Neicy) Brice-Williams, whom she called her granddaughter.
