Juanita A. Pollard

JUANITA POLLARD was the matriarch of our family. Juanita A. Pollard was born in New Kent County, Virginia on April 12, 1935. She was a graduate of New Kent County Public Schools and she received Education at Baltimore City Community College. Juanita arrived in Baltimore, Maryland at the age of 22 on August 8, 1957 with her father Clarence Pollard Sr. to get medical care for him. She cared for him, along with his sister Jeanette who was a nurse, until his passing. She had an incredible legacy with two retirements of 40 combined years with over 20-plus years as an Educator in Baltimore City Public Schools and 20 years at Emily Price Jones Foster Grandparent Head Start Centers. She received awards from Former Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley and Former Senator Barbara Mikulski for her work in Education. At the age of 90, she received citations on her birthday from Maryland Governor Wes Moore, Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott, Maryland Congressman Kweisi Mfume, and letters from the Baltimore Ravens and the Baltimore Orioles for her service in Education and her love for her home teams. Juanita enjoyed traveling. Some of her highlights included White Sands New Mexico, Carlsbad Caverns and Juarez, Mexico with her son Timothy Pollard and granddaughter Justina Pollard. Her son’s military service afforded her great travel experiences. She especially enjoyed her plane ride to see her son in Alabama. Juanita loved perfumes from Paris and fashion which included Versace and Prada. She enjoyed weekend shopping visits to Washington, DC and her favorite shops in Maryland. She loved to exercise by walking and an occasional gym visit. She spent over 10 years as a vegetarian. She loved her children Theresa and Timothy Pollard. They were her pride and joy. She loved her daughter’s artistic ability. She always said she wanted to see her work in a gallery. She spoke so highly of her son. She was very proud of his legacy and all of his accomplishments. She spent an abundance of time with her eldest and first grandchild Justina Pollard- Bullock enjoying African American Museums, talking about precious family moments, laughing, singing Gospel Music, exercising to Afro Beats and Reggae Music and enjoying favorite shows Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. She especially enjoyed watching her granddaughter narrate the dolphin shows at the National Aquarium, she loved seeing the Pollard last name on a parking spot and visiting the television set at WBAL-TV 11 and she also enjoyed listening to Dr. Kaye’s Show on WEAA of which Justina is the producer. She was so proud to show off her granddaughter’s Emmy Award to all who visited her place. She was so happy that all of her grandchildren created legacies of their own. She was the sixth to the youngest of seven children and the last surviving. She missed her parents Clarence Pollard Sr. and Alice Cary Pollard as well as her siblings Inez, Pearl, Burrell, Clarence Jr. Preston and Edward. In her final days, she couldn’t understand why the Lord kept on this earth and she expressed repeatedly she wanted to be with them. Juanita leaves behind to cherish her legacy: her daughter Theresa and her son Timothy, four grandchildren: Justina (Kevin), Antoine (Kai), Tim Jr. (Ebony) and Monica (Tyman) and six great grandchildren, sister in law: Thelma and host of nieces, nephews, family and friends
