Juanita I. Gant

JUANITA IRIS GANT was born on March 9, 1934 to the late Elmer White and Viola Ruth White. Juanita affectionately known as “Nita” was an only child. She lived in Baltimore, Maryland all of her life. She attended Baltimore City Public Schools and graduated from Douglas High School. Juanita also attended an L.P.N. program and then decided to pursue and college degree. She graduated from The Community College of Baltimore City with an Associate Degree in Nursing. Later, she attended Coppin State College and received her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. She worked as a Registered Nurse for over 30 years, and enjoyed working in medical, surgical and psychiatric nursing. Juanita had a great sense of humor and loved to cook, and entertain others. Juanita was willing to help whenever needed. Her favorite charity was the Paralyzed Veterans of America. She also served as vice president for “Another Choice, Inc.” a nonprofit community organization for over 20 years. She was well known for the advice she gave others. Juanita was also I high achiever, and accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior at a young age. She also encouraged her children to do the same. Juanita married her high school sweetheart Joseph Allen Gant and through that union came the Be-Be’s Kids; the late Gary a.k.a. Peanut, Shelly, Debbie, Joey, Butch and Kelly. Juanita developed a chronic illness in her mid-60s, and continued to work and encourage others. Despite developing a terminal illness one year ago, Juanita was determined to never give up. She departed from this life on April 22, 2013 at 4:00am. She was very gifted with numbers and did all of her calculations in her head. In addition, she possessed a “sixth sense”, always seeming to know or guess things before they occurred. Dream interpretation was her specialty. She is survived by: her mother, Viola R. White; children, Shelley, Debbra (Christopher), Joseph (Salena), David, and Kelly; thirteen grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; a host of cousins, other relatives and friends. Linda Avery and Florence Hall both were her lifelong friends.
