Juanita Elizabeth Hurt

The Lord is my strength and song. He has become my salvation. To God be the Glory.On 7:15 a.m., Monday, May 6, 2002 at Northwest Hospital in Randallstown, Maryland, Juanita gave her mortal body a rest to take on immortality to be with her Heavenly Father. Juanita was the eldest child of the late Vernon Redmond Sr. and Elizabeth Rowe. She was a blessed child to be raised by loving grandparents, the late Briscoe and Ethel Redmond of Cumberland, Maryland. She was educated in the private schools of Ursaline Academy of St. Peter and St. Paul Catholic Parish of Cumberland, Maryland. When you think of the fruit peaches, what comes to mind---Juanita. She graduated in 1963 with a nickname “Peaches”. Juanita had many talents. She worked for the Yonkers Public School System as a teacher’s assistant. Her Jell-O molds recipe was so delicious that Rabbi L.S. Plummer occasionally would request her to make some for him n his visits to Yonkers, New York. She acquired a cosmetology license by practicing on her friends, Alfreda Brandon, Miriam and Grace Roberts. At the 1965 Passover, she was baptized into the church of God and Saints of Christ. Because of her loyalty, integrity, commitment and love for her fellow man, she held the offices of: Martha (Secretary) and Storehouse Mistress of the Daughters of Jerusalem and Sisters of Mercy, Church Secretary, Sabbath School Secretary and Choir Members. She believed in prayer. She was found reading scriptures-daily. She encouraged one to pray about their problems one had and gave scripture to correspond. She was never judgmental when on was down on their luck and always gave words of encouragement. She was a blessed woman. She leaves to cherish her memory: husband, Deacon Stevens James F. Hurt, Jr.; daughter, PatriciaJones; son-in-law, Richard Jones; son, Gifford Ethan Hurt, Sr., daughter-in-law, Yvette L. Hurt; three grandchildren, Ashley, Gifford Jr. and Noah Zebulan Hurt; two stepchildren, Charlene and LaTanya Jones; two step-great-grandchildren, Justice and Karen Jones; four sisters, Mary Redmond, Deborah Turner, Delores Gibson of Randallstown, Maryland and Diane Redmond of Owings Mills, Maryland (sister Cornelia Redmond-Chavez preceded her in death); three brothers, Vernon Redmond of Cumberland, Maryland, Michael Redmond of Randallstown, Maryland and Gary Redmond of Albuquerque, New Mexico; six sisters-in-law, Ruby Redmond of Cumberland, Maryland, Agnes Redmond of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Patsy Ventor of Boston, Massachusetts, Carol Jean Woods of Fairmont, W. Virginia Terry Hurt of Rochester, New York, and Saundra Hurt of Yonkers, New York; three brothers-in-law, David Hurt of Rochester, New York, Jehu Hurt of Yonkers, New York and Billy Ventor of Boston, Massachusetts; father-in-law, Chief Stewart James F. Hurt Sr.; stepmother-in-law, Juanita L. Hurt; aunt, Charlotte Hurt of Baltimore, Maryland; two uncles, Joseph Hurt of Baltimore, Maryland and Richard Rowe and wife Gwen of Columbus, Ohio; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
