Joyce Marie Crawford Brown,66,the mother,grandmother, sister andaunt we loved so deeply departed this earthly life unexpectedly on Monday,November 30,2009,at VCU’s Medical College of Virginia. She was born May 31,1943 in York County,Virginia to the late Thomas B.and Lillian E.Crawford. She was married to the late Russell E.Brown.Joyce graduated from Maggie L. Walker High School in 1964.Joyce attended Virginia Union University and received a certificate in philosophical theology and Religious Studies. She started her career with C&P Telephone Co.and was promoted numerous times to the position of technician for 30 years and became an instructor for years,Joyce had taken a leadership role in training new technicians from across the state.She was a faithful member of From the Heart Church Ministries of Richmond;she belonged to the Intercessory Prayer Ministry and worked with various charities.Her interests included family, volunteering,gardening and reading. Joyce was a true child of God. She accepted the Lord as her savior at a young age.Since then she has walked and lived her life through the Lord. She had an extensive knowledge of the Bible and could repeat and live scriptures completely and effortlessly.To her family and friends, Joyce was a confidant who always had the right words to uplift any tough situation.She devoted much of her time and energy as a caregiver to family members.She had an unforgettable personality and made friends wherever she went–a true people person. We’ve lost the irreplaceable center of our family and joyous light in our lives, but the inspiration of her faith, optimism and perseverance will live on in our hearts forever.She will be missed greatly by her family and everyone who knew her. She leaves to cherish her loving memory, two daughters, Shirell Spain and Catherine Moss; four stepdaughters, Michell Brown, Linda Dixon, Tina Butler-Cason and Deone McWilliams; two sons, Arthur Moss Jr.(Debra) and Russel Brown Jr.; 17 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren,two great-great-grandchildren;seven sisters,Celestine Wilson,Nettie Heggs,Linda King,Lorna Evans (James),Gail C.Moor(Shawul), Peggy Cary(Larry)and Sheila White Emanuel)four brothers,George, Harold and Emanuel Crawford and Paul Scott(Yvonne);a host of nieces,nephews,cousins and other relatives and friends.
