Joyce Elaine Manuel

A precious one from us is gone . . . a voice we loved is still A place is vacant in our hearts . . . that never can be filled. Joyce “Elaine” Manuel was born December 4, 1954 in Littleton, North Carolina to the late Bethenia and Ollie B. Harvey. At the tender age of ten she received the most precious gift of life; the Holy Spirit. Her grandmother the late Mother Beatrice Lett-Pitchford and her aunt Mother Connie Hayden introduced her to that gift; baptism in the name of Jesus and the Holy Ghost speaking in other tongues under the leadership of the late John W. Purnell. Elaine graduated from Huguenot High School in 1972 and later furthered her education at J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College. She worked for Trigon Blue Cross Blue Shield for thirteen years, creating insurance policies that continues to be used today. Elaine was married to Keith D. Manuel and from that union, three children were born: Andrew J., Brian K., and Saraisa D. Elaine’s ability to touch lives was impeccable. She had a way of hugging and loving a person without even knowing what they were going through and made a change in their life. She devoted her time to serving her ministry through the Decoration Ministry and as Women’s Council President. Elaine spent many days and nights in the Family Life Center decorating for weddings, birthdays, funeral repasts, baby showers and various other events. She leaves to cherish memories to her three children, Andrew, Brian, and Saraisa (Eric); eleven grandchildren; Javon B., Uvonya, Ashley, Javon M., Destiny, Andrew Jr., Randaisha, Jaila, Avion, Gavin, and Shandria; two great-grands, Kavel and Carter; seven sisters; Linda Evans, Jackie Wyche, Betrice Harvey “Niecey”, Ollie Harvey, Sharon Harvey, Eula Harvey, and Bethenia Harvey; aunts and uncles; Mother Connie Hayden “Spooky”, Evelyn Riley, Eldridge Alston, Herman Alston and Min. Dennis Pitchford; great- aunt, Mother Diane Bolling; devoted friends, Remonia Keys, Myra Moran, and Liz Shaw; her beloved Greater Refuge Church Family and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and loving friends.
