Joyce Elizabeth Jones

Joyce Elizabeth Jones (nee Schloss) was born in Kingston, Jamaica, West Indies to James and Jemima Schloss on January 12th, 1931. She was the second of two children, brother Rev. Egbert Schloss who preceeded her in death in 2005 In Jamaica, she was a homemaker and an amazing and talented seamstress. She decided to migrate to the US in 1970 to make a better life for her family. While in the US, Joyce worked at Provident Hospital as a nurse’s aide for many years until they closed. She continued her career at Good Samaritan Hospital until she retired. Joyce and Raphael Diego Jones were friends for 5 years prior to their marriage of 55 years. From this union was born four beautiful children Norman, Karen (deceased), Bryan and Pauline. Joyce was a hard working, dedicated, and devoted woman. Her favorite place was in the kitchen, she loved to cook and bake; you could never leave her house without having something to eat. Anyone who came to her home was treated like one of her children. She would feed and counsel them on being a gentleman or young lady. She loved to reminisce about her days in Jamaica and the times spent with her family. Joyce was also known for her beautiful crocheting. She made something for each of her grand children and great-grand children, blankets or an entire outfit, (sweater, booties, hat, pillows and diaper covers). Unfortunely, she was unable to crochet something for her last born great-grand son, Jayden, who was born on the day she past. Joyce was a long time worshiper and member at Arlington-Lewin United Methodist Church. Joyce departed this earth on September 20th 2011 after a brief illness. She leaves to cherish her memories, husband Raphael, children Norman, Bryan and Pauline. Grand-children Latasha, Deandria, Troy, Shawan, Christopher, Briana, Tamoya, Karen (Vanessa), Melissa and Tiana. Great-grand children Dante, Damijae, Mekel, Taniya, Caylin, Morgan and Jayden. Sisters-in-law Evelyn Schloss and Verna Moore (Peggy), daughter-in law Karen Watt-Jones, niece Yvonne, nephews Michael, Howard and Colin and a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Joyce, Joycie, Aunt Joyce, Mommy, Moms, Miss Jones, Mrs. Jones thank you for your patience, understanding, dedication and unconditional love. You are gone, you will be missed, but you will not be forgotten. May you rest in peace and light puerperal shine upon you.
