Joyce Marie Gresham

The Life of Joyce Marie Smith Gresham Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his faithful servants. PSALM 116:15 God has called another angel home. On December 31, 2014, Joyce Marie Smith Gresham went to claim God’s promise of an eternal place of rest, free from pain and suffering. Joyce was dearly loved and will truly be missed by her family and friends. The oldest daughter of the union of William H. and Addie Mae Williams Smith, Joyce was born April 28, 1936. Reared in the Fulton area, Joyce accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Mount Calvary Baptist Church where she was an active member. She loved the Lord and participated in the Senior Choir, the Willing Workers, the Finance Committee and the R.I.T.A. (Reaching Into The Ages) Senior Group. Most recently, she enjoyed the mid-day Bible Study and always opened the meeting with a song. She came from a family of songstresses who rendered their musical talents to the Mount Calvary Baptist Church. Her talent to the Senior Choir was greatly missed when her service was interrupted by failing health. Joyce and her best friend, Carey Gresham, were married September 20, 1952, just shy of 60 years. This union was blessed with five children. Joyce graduated from Nursing School and was employed as a Licensed Practical Nurse at the Medical College of Virginia Hospital, retiring after 30 years. Joyce was a loving and caring Mother who enjoyed having all of her family gather for meals, trips, and holiday celebrations. She is preceded in death by her husband, Carey Leon Gresham, Sr., her sister Deacon Jean S. Street, and her daughter, Valencia Denise Gresham. Joyce leaves to cherish a precious memory, her children: Carey L. Gresham, Jr.(Veronica),Karen P. Gresham,Renita J. Gresham, and Carla G. Hill(Emanuel);five grandchildren:Laia Davidson(Rev. Dr. Todd Davidson),Rashad Gresham(Patrea),Kyuana Banks, Craig Banks,Jr. and Ashleigh Gresham; five great grandchildren; three brothers-in-law; Stuart Gresham, Kevin Gresham, and John Gresham; three sisters-in-law; Sandra Jordan, Tanya Gresham and Mary Gresham; and many other loving relatives and friends.
