Josephine Jackson

Josephine Jackson, daughter of the late Henry and Rosa Curry was born August 4, 1912 in Pavo, Georgia. She departed this life on Saturday,, October 30, 2004 in Baltimore, Maryland.Josie, as her family and friends affectionately called her, left Pavo at an early age and moved to Rocky Mt. North Carolina. Josie attended Red Hill Baptist Church and with her sister Loreatha, she sang the songs of Zion at Churches in the surrounding towns.It was in North Carolina she met and married Silas Shearin. From this union two daughters were born, Mabel and Carrie. Silas and Josie later joined her family in Cleveland, Ohio. They remained there until they relocated to Baltimore, Maryland. This marriage ended in divorce but family ties remain strong until today. Later in her years she met and married John Jackson, who preceded her in death. Many years later, Josie developed a devoted friendship with the late Willie Brown.Josie was a hard and diligent worker. She did some factory work, but was employed at the Emerson Hotel for years. Josie was also an entrepreneur. She and her sister opened a restaurant in Baltimore that served “down-home cooking.”Josie was known not to socialize much, but everyone found their way to her. The hungry were fed, and the naked clothed. She visited the sick and gave us all wise counsel when needed. You could always count on Josie when there was a break down in childcare. She lovingly cared for children of many relatives. Josie raised two great nieces as her own, Karen Doles and Corethia Fulton. This is a real testimony of her love for her family.Josie joined Southern Baptist Church many years and later joined Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church under the pastor ship of Rev. Isaac Williams. She remained a faithful member until she became unable to attend. The assurance of her soul salvation and eternal home was re-affirmed in prayer with her niece Maezella Doles only a few days ago. She is now in heaven with our father.She leaves to cherish her memory: one daughter, Carrie S. Rosser of Baltimore, MD; one sister, Bessie Hunt of Cleveland, OH; Karen Doles and Corethia Fulton, her loving great nieces, a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
