Joseph G. Johnson Sr.

On the morning of May 8, 2015, Joseph Glenn Johnson left his earthly life of sixty-four years to start his external life in Christ. Joseph, affectionately known as “Joe-Boy”, was born in Baltimore, MD on August 13, 1950 to the late James E. Henderson and Geneva A. Johnson-Hendeson. The first born son and second born child to James and Geneva, Joe-Bot enjoyed growing up in large, loving family of eight brothers and sisters. Unfortunately, Joe-Boy is not the first sibling to meet our Lord and Savior. Sister, Amy Henderson and brother, Dennis Henderson both preceded him in death. While Joe-Boy lived a colorful life, a life with many trials and tribulations, the Lord, Our Savior, kept his arms around him and provided comfort and protection from those that would have brought him harm. Our, Lord, God kept him with us until He was ready for him to come home. Joe-Boy was educated in the Baltimore City School System. A graduate of Forest Park High School, he attended the Community College of Baltimore County where he completed two years of post graduate education. His collegiate experience prepared him for a career with the Bethlehem Steel Corporation, a career he enjoyed and one that lasted for twenty-six years until leaving the company. Joseph recognized the importance of having a spiritual life. He accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at St. James Methodist Church. Illness took much of the vitality from Joe-Boy's life. Unable to care for himself after leaving Bethlehem Steel, he relied upon the caring hands of many to assist him through life's events. But no one provided more care and love than Sheila Fleary. His chosen life's partner and mother to his son; Sheila was by his side through times good and bad. Joseph's life will be remembered and cherished by many. His sons, Joseph Glenn Johnson Jr. and Jacob Johnson; daughter, Elicia Spruell; granddaughters, Diamond Spruell, De'Ziyah Spruell and Latara Green; grandsons, Joseph Johnson III, Myiarnie Johnson and Jacoby Johnson will keep his spirit alive and family legacy ever present. Supporting them in this journey are: sisters, Christine Speight, Regina Henderson, and Robin Jones; brothers, Michael Henderson, Anthony Henderson, Kendall Henderson, Tyrone Henderson, and Robert Henderson; aunts, Janice Johnson and Freida Jones; uncles, Clarence Johnson; sister-in-law, Marva Henderson; daughter-in-law, Ronita Brown-Johnson and Lawana Johnson; and a host of nieces, nephews and many, many, many friends.
