Jorge Aroche Contreras

Jorge Aroche Contreras, 82, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, departed this life on Tuesday, January 27, 2026. Jorge was born on January 14, 1944 in Guatemala City, Guatemala to Juanita Contreras and Ernesto Aroche. Jorge was widely known for his generosity, sense of humor, and being the life of any gathering with family and friends. His youth was filled with adventures, such as climbing the renowned 12,000-foot volcano El Agua, in Antigua, Guatemala. Jorge had a lifelong love of dancing, which he enjoyed with his wife Lidia; playing the guitar, and singing boleros, his favorite being Sabor a Mi. His ingenuity with carpentry provided many touches for his home, and keepsakes for his grandchildren. Jorge was a business owner, founding the company Aroche Metals with his younger brother, Hector in Guatemala City. They worked on everything from major construction projects to ornate wrought iron structures. In 1986, Jorge immigrated to the United States where he resided on Long Island, New York, working for Multiton, Inc. until transferring to Richmond,VA. Jorge was preceded in death by his mother Juanita; his father Ernesto; his brothers Neto and Alfonso; and three infant sons. He is survived by his devoted wife of over 60 years, Lidia; his devoted son Manolo and his daughter-in-law Alicia, who he considered to be his daughter; two grandchildren Gabriela and Andrés, on whom he and his wife Lidia doted; beloved siblings Maruca, Esperanza, Arturo, Hector, and Yoly; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Jorge nació el 14 de enero de 1944 en la Ciudad de Guatemala, Guatemala, hijo de Juanita Contreras y Ernesto Aroche. Jorge era muy conocido por su generosidad, su sentido del humor y por ser el alma de cualquier reunión familiar o de amigos. Su juventud estuvo llena de aventuras, como escalar el famoso volcán El Agua, de 3657 metros de altura, en Antigua, Guatemala. Jorge disfrutó toda su vida del baile, que compartía con su esposa Lidia; de tocar la guitarra y de cantar boleros, siendo su favorito "Sabor a Mí". Su ingenio para la carpintería le permitió crear muchos detalles para su hogar y recuerdos para sus nietos. Jorge fue empresario y fundó la compañía Aroche Metals con su hermano menor, Héctor, en la Ciudad de Guatemala. Trabajaron en todo tipo de proyectos, desde grandes construcciones hasta elaboradas estructuras metallicas. En 1986, Jorge emigró a Estados Unidos, donde residió en Long Island, Nueva York, trabajando para Multiton, Inc. hasta que se mudó a Richmond, Virginia. Le precedieron en la muerte su madre Juanita; su padre Ernesto; sus hermanos Neto y Alfonso; y tres hijos que fallecieron en la infancia. Le sobreviven su amada esposa de más de 60 años, Lidia; su querido hijo Manolo y su nuera Alicia, a quien consideraba como una hija; sus dos nietos, Gabriela y Andrés, a quienes él y su esposa Lidia adoraban; sus queridos hermanos Maruca, Esperanza, Arturo, Héctor y Yoly; y numerosos sobrinos, sobrinas y primos. La familia honrará a Jorge en ceremonias privadas en Estados Unidos y en Guatemala.
