Johnnie Thomas Brown Sr.

Johnnie Thomas Brown Jr. was born on March 17, 1944, in Washington DC, to the late Irene and Johnnie Brown Sr.. He departed this life on Monday October 30, 2023. Johnnie was educated in the Baltimore City Public School System. In 1971, he began working at the Sparrows Point Shipyard and was blessed with two sons Johnnie III and Eric whom he loved and adored. Johnnie's adventurous spirit led him to California. Although he loved California, Johnnie headed to Alaska! In his quest for financial empowerment, Johnnie accepted a position on the Alaskan Pipeline. Eventually, Johnnie settled in Settle, WA where he welcomed his third son Anthony, who preceded him in death. Johnnie loved working for the Seattle City Light Company where he eventually retired. Going back to collage and earning his real estate license was one of Johnnie's proudest moments. In 2004, Johnnie met his soulmate, Alma Jones and finally moved back to Baltimore. Johnnie and Alma enjoyed traveling, cooking, and raising their grandchildren. Pop-Pop spoiled his babies. He and his best friend Anthony took a trip to Las Vegas when Anthony was 10. They had a ball on the Vegas strip! When his princess, Noe'lle was born, every morning Pop-Pop would meet her in the front lobby and never let her out of his sight. Pop-Pop would throw all the quarters on the bed, and they enjoyed rolling them. Pop-Pop would even pretend he couldn't read, just to have a bible study session with Noe and Savannah...of course, they would do all the reading. Johnnie had many hobbies such as cooking, card playing, gambling and traveling. Johnnie seized every opportunity to seethe world, visiting places like; New York, Louisiana, Jamaica, Aruba, Las Vegas, and Belize. He intended to live his life to the fullest, and that's just what he did! Johnnie was also quite the jokester, as he kept the room in stitches. Johnnie was a natural born leader and took God's word to heart, "If you love me, feed my sheep". He developed the Mt. Claire Overlook Community Association to improve services and promote community and civic engagement for seniors in the building. As President, he developed the Food Pantry to help seniors with healthy food options. Every Saturday morning there were donuts and coffee in the community room and holidays were celebrated. Johnnie also spearheaded a "Scooter Club" for the guys! They rode scooters all over downtown, which often ended with lunch at Phillips Restaurant or at Maryland Live Casino! During his last mile of the way, Johnnie had some true angels; his brothers Leon and Mike who made sure he looked sharp with a fresh cut, and his daughter Cake who brought balloons, food, fun and fellowship! Now that my earthly journey is finished, and I am with my Lord, I leave to cherish my memories: My sons, Johnnie (Dawn), Eric; and Anthony preceded in death; sisters Barbara, Priscilla, Pam, Cynthia, Edith, Mary (George), Valerie, Martha; brothers Leon, Victor, Michael, Johnnie, and Toy; preceded in death; Janet, Angie, Ronald (Pop), Kenneth, Victor, Roslyn, and Charlene; Soulmate, Alma Jones; 20 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and a host of special nieces,nephews, cousins, relatives and friends. Johnnie left a legacy of family, love, and generosity.
