John Douglass Stephens

John Douglas Stephens was born September 11, 1941 in Addor, North Carolina to Ernestine Core Stephens and Thomas J. Stephens, Jr. He is the oldest of two children. His father was in the military therefore they traveled a lot. Johns lived in Baltimore, Md., New York, N.Y., Harrisburg, Pa., and Louisville, Ky. He graduated from Central High School in Louisville. KY. John enlisted in the United States Army and received an Honorable Discharge. He returned to Baltimore, MD... There he met Gladys Byrd and in March 1968 they married. From this union, one son Jerome Walter Stephens was born. He worked for The Sheet Metal Company in Baltimore for several years until he decided to pursue a career in trucking, He later ventured into his own trucking business. He loved driving dump trucks. He was "old school" and had great work ethics, John was a very outgoing person. He often struck up conversations with strangers. Though he didn't realize it, he prophesied to many people. Some people have come back and confirmed what he told them. Friendship with John was genuine and unshakable. He was a very caring and loving. And most of all, he loved his family. His pride for his family often brought him to tears of joy! His favorite sayings were : Hey Young Man" and Let's go Jogging". He loved his wife and he let everybody know it. He affectionately called he "Baby" and/ or "Sugar Baby". John's walk with God became more vocal and apparent during the last two years of his life. He love God! Now his home is with God! Hallelujah! There's nothing better than that !!!! John leaves to cherish lasting memories: His beloved wife Gladys Stephens; two sons, Two sons, Thomas A. Allen (Jonah R), Jerome W. Stephens Sr. (Bruni); two daughters, Tuwanna M. Allen Taylor, April Taylor, April Brown (James); niece/daughter Gladys D. Hamlin; four stepchildren Charles Parker Jr., Sean Parker Sr. Vaughn Parker Sr, and C. Melonie Jacqueline Tsahai, Jerome Stephens Jr., Jerome- Alejandro Stephens, Terrell M. Taylor, Michael N. Boulton Jr. Claudie Williams (Ester) one, great-granddaughter Lily Williams, two great-grandsons Wesley Williams. and Rex Williams; brother, Thomas J Stephens, III, (Glenda); five brother in-laws, Dr. James (Moose) Whitmore, Jerome S. Byrd (Karen), Michael Byrd ( Carolyn ), Andrew Whitmore, four aunts Evangelist Margaret S. Thompson, Lona S. Atkins, Helen Green (Bishop Green), Priscilla Hayes; grand nieces Teneara Jackson and Jayda Jackson, newly adopted daughter Renola Carr, and a host of God-sisters and God-brothers, nieces, nephews, cousins, numerous other relatives and friends. Johns was proceeded in death by his Parents, Maternal Grandmother, who helped to raise him, Mrs. Ella Harrington Core Gibson, Grandfather and Paternal Granparents.
