John H. Sampson

JOHN HERNY SAMPSON, the beloved son of the late Mary Jane and Fledger Sampson was born on July 25, 1932 in Marion, South Carolina. He was the younger of his two siblings. His older brother, James Sampson preceded him in death. He departed this life on Sunday, August 7, 2011 at Falls Road Manor Care Nursing Home. John received his education in the Marion County Public School System in South Carolina. He accepted Christ as his personal Lord and Savior as a young man in South Carolina. His Christian roots set a strong foundation for his upbringing in life. He came to Baltimore, Maryland to live with his sister, Roberta Phillips and her family. On occasions, he attended the Israel Baptist Church with his sister under the leadership of the late Rev. Edmond D. Meade and continues the fellowship with Pastor Wilson. John love to see Pastor Wilson walk the benches an he got the greatest kick out of it. He worked at the Maryland Brick Company until his retirement. He was a very faithful worker and believed in being to work every day and on time. Sam, as he was affectionately known, was a true friend and a devoted man. He made friends wherever he went and tried to help those who needed assistance. He was always a reserved person, but he had the sort of quite presence that was capable of silencing debates among his friends. He was a lover of cars. He loved to get out of the house around 6:00 a.m. In the mornings to take friends to work. He would help the ladies carry their bags from the food store. He believed in sharing anything that he had if it help someone, or give them encouragement. If you needed money, John was there to lend a helping hand. If you got him wrong, he had no problem in letting you know how he felt. Sam had three daughters, Patricia, Rochelle and LaShawn whom he loved very much and was always happy when they came around to see him. He tried to spoil them with whatever their requests were. He an his sister, Roberta was very close and there was not a week that past he did not contact her. His niece, Odessa was the only one who could make him keep his doctor's appointment and take his medicine. Everyone who knew and loved him will miss”Sam.” John leaves to cherish his memory: his beloved and devoted sister, Mrs Roberta Sampson Phillips; his three daughters, Patricia (James) Crosby of Baltimore,MD., Rochelle (Anthony) Barnes of Willingboro, NJ and LaShawn Mayfield of Ashbury Park, NJ; his three special nephews, Clarence (Ethel) Sampson, Thomas (Hilda) Phillips and Marian (Sylvia) Sampson; his devoted niece, Dr. Odessa D. (Vernon) Dorkins. He also leaves eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends.
