John Ree Morris

John Ree Morris, affectionately known as Ray, peacefully passed away at his home in Richmond, Virginia, on August 12, 2024, at the age of 73. Born on November 1, 1950, in Mansura, Louisiana, John’s life was a testament to dedication, love, and service to others. John is lovingly remembered by his two sisters, Angelain Morris-Loggins (Dwayne Loggins) and Delphine Morris-James (Gerald James), his three daughters, Sydnye Rogers (Greg Rogers), Briana Morris, and Brooke Morris (Tavaras Johnson), his son, Jonathan Morris, his devoted life partner, Solita Allen, his eight cherished grandchildren, and a multitude of close friends who were like family to him. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Sidney and Edna Morris (Dupas), and his eldest daughter, Loretta Prier. John’s life was marked by hard work, dedication, and a deep sense of responsibility. After graduating from Mary Bethune High School in 1970 and earning a degree in Accounting from Grambling State University in 1974, he moved to Chicago, Illinois, where he began his career as an accountant. In 1975, John answered a higher calling and joined the United States Marine Corps, where he served with honor and distinction until his retirement as a Gunnery Sergeant in November 2005. In 1996, John settled in Richmond, Virginia, where his natural charisma and integrity made him a top car salesman before he found his true calling in service with the United States Postal Service. Over the next 24 years, until his retirement in June 2022, John became a beloved figure in his community, known for his unwavering commitment to his work and the kindness he extended to everyone he met. John was not only a man of service but also a man of deep faith. As an active and devout member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus, he found joy in giving back to his community and living a life guided by love, compassion, and selflessness. Beyond his professional achievements and community service, John was a loving father, grandfather, partner, and friend. His greatest joy came from spending time with his family, traveling to new places, and maintaining a lifelong passion for fitness. His love for life and those around him was evident in everything he did, and his presence brought warmth and joy to everyone who knew him. As we remember John, we find solace in the many lives he touched and the indelible mark he left on our hearts. His legacy lives on in the lessons he taught us, the unwavering love he shared, and the countless memories we will forever cherish. Though he is no longer with us in body, his spirit will continue to guide and inspire us every day. _________________________________________________________________________
