John H. Moore

John Hopkins Moore passed away peacefully after a brief illness, on the 12th of February, 2023, in his home surrounded by family. He passed away just one month before his 89th birthday. John was born the only child to the late Roberta and John Moore in Chester, South Carolina. "Johnny," as he was affectionately known, attended Sollers Point High School in Baltimore County. Immediately following high school, he briefly worked at Bethlehem Steele. He later worked and retired from the Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) after more than 30 years of service. At the age of 19 he married his high school sweetheart Myra to which four children were born to this union. After his union ended he found the love of his life Yvonne "Betty" Moore and on July 1, 1967 they married. John was a devoted husband. He loved and cared for Betty during her illness until her death on December 10, 1999. John leaves to mourn his four Children: Thomasine William (Spouse: Van T. Williams), John A. Moore (Spouse: Pamela Moore), Roberta Moore, and Eric Moore, Senior. One son preceded him in death, E. Ricky Moore in May of 2015. Three Step-children: Patricia Macatuno, Linda Stringfield, and Luella Bright. Luella proceeded him in death in January of 2020. Nine Grandchildren: Monique Williams, Monicka Williams, Sencera Bright, Michael Carroll,Tymia Williams, Jerome Moore, Eric Moore, Jr., Donte Johnson, Samantha Dennison, several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. John loved all sports but especially his Baltimore Orioles and Ravens. His garden was coveted for his rose-bushes. He was an active member in his church and community. He went out of his way to help family and friends. John was proud of his family and loved nothing better than spending time with them. If you knew him, you knew his home as his sanctuary. The air was filled with the aroma of deer cooking (which he hunted and caught), his home decor was surrounded with real-life stuffed animals (taxidermy-mounts). He always sought comfort by relaxing in his recliner and his infamous "toothpick" on the inside of his cheek. For over 50 years, he enjoyed hunting and mastered the art of being a skilled hunter. He was a member of the Pioneer Rod and Gun Club, Inc., since 1973, where he built more than friendships; he build a brotherhood. While part of the Pioneer Club, he attendedall fishing and hunting events. While still in good health, his last few weeks were spent with his hunting brothers. John H. Moore touched the lives of many. He will forever be cherished and remembered for his good nature, pleasant smile, and welcoming spirit.
