John H. Lipford Sr.

John Henry Lipford Sr. was born in Nathalie, VA on May 25,1938 to the late Samuel Raymond Lipford and Gracie Coles Lipford. He was the seventh born of ten children. He departed this life on August 18, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Lewis, Joseph and Charlie Lipford. John attended Halifax County Public Schools. At an early age, he accepted Christ and joined the County Line Baptist Church in Vernon Hill, VA where he remained a faithful member until moving to Baltimore, MD. Prior to his passing John was a member of the New Life Baptist Church in Baltimore, MD under the direction of Pastor Washington Flowers. On July 5, 1958, he was united in marriage to Clementris Dodson and they shared 60 wonderful years of marriage. To this union, four children were born, Marvin Wayne, Joanie, John Jr. and Corey. He was preceded in death by his oldest son Marvin Wayne Lipford. John held various jobs with companies such as Maryland Cup, Cindarn Plastics and St. James Condos. John loved to bowl, shoot pool and play the guitar. John was an excellent cook and was well known for his much requested Pig’s Feet and Potato Salad. He also loved to listen to jazz music and his favorite musicians were Wilson Pickett and Chuck Berry. He also had a big passion for big cars such as the Buick Electra 225 and Lincoln Town Cars. John enjoyed spending time with his family and was an excellent provider. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife Clementris Lipford of Baltimore, MD; one daughter Joanie Wagner, Baltimore, MD; two sons John Lipford Jr. (Barbara), Baltimore, MD and Corey Lipford (Nichole), Red Lion, PA; seven grandchildren: James, Brandon, Secret, Marvin, Marcus, Diamond and Shianne; two great grandchildren: Logan and Mason; three brothers Willie Lipford, Philadelphia, PA; Raleigh Lipford (Yvonne), Washington, DC and Ernest Lipford (Phyllis), Nathalie, VA; three sisters, Arlean Stone, New Carrollton, MD; Elizabeth Lipford, Brooklyn, NY and Virginia Dixon (Henry) Columbus, GA; sister in-laws Irene Lipford, Anne Marie Womack, Esther Jones (Herman), Shirley Petty; brother in-law, James Doc Dodson; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
