In Loving Memory of John Hicks Jr. April 1, 1943 – November 27, 2024 John Hicks Jr., affectionately known as “Junie” to those who knew him well, was born on April 1, 1943, to the late Sallie Jarrell Hicks and John Hicks Sr. The Lord peacefully called him home on November 27, 2024. A proud graduate of Roanoke Rapids High School in North Carolina, John went on to build a life defined by faith, family, and purpose. He shared 41 cherished years of marriage with his beloved wife, Reverend Annie Hicks. Together, they raised two children, Dwight and Jennifer, creating a home filled with love and steadfast values. After residing in New York City for over three decades, the couple moved to Midlothian, Virginia, to enjoy their later years. John’s professional journey included tenures with Ford and Nabisco before he co-founded Accurate Courier Express, a testament to his entrepreneurial spirit. He was a man of many layers: kind yet matter of fact, quick-tempered yet deeply caring. A Deacon of New Direction Evangelistic Church, John drew strength from his faith and instilled in his children the importance of diligence, integrity, and resilience. His lasting legacy to his children and grandchildren is a powerful belief: success is earned, not given, and comes through hard work and perseverance. In his free time, John loved bowling, fishing, and traveling, immersing himself in the wonders of the world and its diverse cultures. He had a gift for storytelling, a sharp sense of humor, and a life philosophy rooted in hard work and gratitude. John was preceded in death by his wife, Rev. Annie Hicks, and a loving son-in-law, Lamonte Tucker. He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories with his family; sons, Ricky (Patricia) and Dwight (Desiree) Hicks; devoted daughter, Jennifer Lewis (Shaqwan); grandchildren, Brittney, Amber, Ciara, Sherika, Donavin, Deonte, and Cory; great-grandchildren, Gabriela and Lux; brothers. William Hicks (Diane) and James Hicks and sisters, Fannie Benbow (Boston, deceased) and Genia Williams (Curtis). He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, in-laws, cousins, and friends who will forever treasure his memory.
