John H. James

On Thursday, April 27, 2006, God in His infinite wisdom and unfailing love, instructed the angels to call JOHN HENRY JAMES at Alice Manor and said, "Come on home and rest in peace - suffer no more My child. You have run a long, hard race. Come and join your beloved wife Regina Gladys James, who passed away on June 11, 2000." John Henry James Sr. was born September 9, 1917 in Baltimore, Maryland to the late Robert James and Maggie Cummings-James.John received his education in Baltimore City Public Schools. On April 5, 1942 he married the "Love of his life," Regina Gladys Hawkins. From 1942 to 1945 he served in the United States Army from which he was discharged with honors. John and Regina enjoyed fifty-eight wonderful years of marriage and family togetherness. From this union came the late John Jr. and Byron Sr.... next came Sharon (Toni) and Roxanne. Maurice Blackwell is a "spiritual son" who they took under their wings and loved as their own. John James was employed with Maryland Glass Corporation for over twenty-six years before retirement. He joined and enjoyed a bowling league for many years. He was very active in another club called G & M (Pinochle Club). He was a devoted husband and father. He was a joy to be around, "happy and jolly" with his closest friends, because he lived life to the fullest. For the last two years of John's illness, he was cared for by his "devoted" loving daughter Toni and son-in-law Curtis until God called him home. In his later years he accepted Christ and was baptized at Koinonia Baptist Church. He leaves to cherish fond memories: his loving and devoted daughters, Sharon (Toni) Brown and Roxanne White; two sons-in-law, Curtis Brown and Joseph White Sr.; two daughters-in-law, Shermaine and Phyllis; adopted son-in-law, Houston; fourteen grandchildren, John III, Byron Jr., Commander Tracey Hayes, Patrese, Troy, Larry Jr., Clifton III, Joseph Jr., Konika, Patricia, India, Teon and Ashley; eighteen great-grandchildren; five sisters-in-law, Bunny, Marguerite, Viola, Willie and Stephanie; four brothers-in-law, Rogers, Skippy, James and Donald; first cousins, Ella Langley; goddaughter, Thomasina; and a host of other relatives and friends.
