John Edward Scott

John Edward Scott, beloved son of the late John and Annie Riley Scott, was born on November 9, 1920 in Baltimore, Maryland. On December 16, 2009, God called John home to eternal rest surrounded by his loved ones.John was educated in the Baltimore City Public School System. On 3/13/44, John met and married the love of his life, Retha Hutchinson. From this union, 4 daughters were born; Lynda Wyche and Barbara Kearney proceeded him in death.At the young age of 24, John was drafted into the United States Army and served in World War II. He fought for his country and always told storied of his struggles during that era. After being Honorable Discharged from the service, he came home and started working as a longshoreman with the Steam-ship Trade Association, where he met many life long friends. He loved his job and always found a way to support his wife and four daughters. After working 42 years, he retired from employment to spend time with his family.The most important part of John's journey home was the day he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior and he was led to christ by the late Deacon George Vaden at his daughter's funeral in 1990.John, affectionately known as “BUBBA” to his grandchildren was a gentle giant. He was always willing to help anyone in need and was always known for his pleasant smile. John loved listening to “ oldies but goodies” and watching his favorite teams, the Orioles and the Ravens. He was a man of few words, but his presence was always felt and respected. On Sundays and holidays, his kitchen was filled with the aroma of southern cooking and his home was always open to family and friends. Bubba was also an avid fisherman, as he spent many summer days on the waters of the Eastern Shore. He, along with his brother and his good friend, Mr. June looked forward to a relaxing day out on the boat.John leaves to cherish his memories: two daughters, Elvera Johnson and LaVerne Scott; one brother; Alonzo Scott; one son-in-law, Robert L. Johnson; two sister-in-laws, Gladys Scott and Catherine Hutchinson; five grandchildren, Kenneth Harper, Kimberly Hutchins, Raynard Johnson, Damon Talley, and Robin Johnson; 5 great-grandchildren, Tariq, Riley, Mario, Kenneth Jr., and Tika, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
