John Henry Daughtry Sr

John H. Daughtry, Sr. was born on April 11, 1939, in Baltimore, Maryland to the late Cassie and Ollie Bell Daughtry. He was 1 of 8 children. John was called home from labor to reward on June 12, 2025. In 1955, John met the love of his, Betty Jene. They were married in 1960. Out of this union were 5 children, John Daughtry, Jr. Betty Denise, Allan Diran, Tish and Louis. John was also instrumental in raising of Mary Allan, Doris Brown, and Gwendolyn Jones. John was educated in the Baltimore City Public School system. In 1963, at the age of 22, he and his family joined The Highway Church of Christ Apostolic Faith in fellowship under the leadership of Bishop Fred Page. John was baptized and filled with the Holy Ghost and accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. While at Highway, he sang in several groups. In 1968 he organized a male quartet called the “The Stars of Highway”. They would travel around to different churches and community events spreading the word of God through song. In early 70s, under his leadership, the Stars of Highway recorded their first record which includes “Let It Be Done”, and “Keep Holding On”. They were also featured on a Gospel television Show. John worked for the “Captain Brothers” glass company, until he decided to start his own business. And the D&W glass company was born. After some time, the name of the business was changed to “Daughtry glass company. He did glass work for private homes and business such as hair studios, Churches and nightclubs. Some of the nights clubs and establishments include Melba’s Place Giovanni’s and El Dorado’s to name a few. John was very good with hands. He would make glass picture frames flower vases, and tissue boxes and more, as gifts and offerings to his loved ones. John would not hesitate to show the younger generation the craft of mirror and glass design. He would say. “I won’t give you a dollar, but l’ll show you how to make one”, “The Glass man”, as he was affectionately called by his family and friends. Would continue making glass designs up until the day he went into the hospital. John loved his family with all his heart, especially his ride or die partner. His wife Betty Jene. If you saw John, you saw Jene. And if you saw Jene, you John, they were inseparable. They would ride around vising family, going to the dollar store, or visiting the sick. He also loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great grandbaby. He would attend their school-held music and dance recitals and musical plays and sir in their small chairs, just to support them. They could make him laugh so hard! John leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted wife, Betty Jene, Beloved brother and best friend, Cornelius Daughtry (Flora), his five children, John Daughtry, Jr (Diane), Betty Denise Johnson (Kevin), Allan Daughtry Sr. (Janet), Tish Mitchell (Douglas) and Louis Holley. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Shaqwanda Daughtry, Teiara Daughtry, Jual Daughtry, Shavon Daughtry, William Spence, LaToya spence, Allan Daughtry Jr., Auriel Daughtry, Davon Moore, and Asia Mitchell. Alongside his grandchildren, there are his 19 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great child, Daune Robinson III, whom he comedically “Speed-0”. John is preceded in death by six of his siblings, his grandchildren, John McNeil-Daughtry and William Jackson, and his great-granddaughter, Janeah Marie Eppes, his special friends, Henry James and Sam Price, and a host of family and friends
