John Daniel Snowden

JOHN DANIEL SNOWDEN, son of Martha W. Henley and the late John (Jack) Snowden, was born on November 27, 1960 in Baltimore, Maryland. He departed this life on October 24, 2009.John received his formal education in Baltimore City Catholic and Public Schools. He graduated from Walbrook High School in 1978. He was a graduate of Stevenson University 1986 (the former villa Julie College) and Morgan State University 1983. Most recently John was truly blessed to be working for Baltimore Housing, having previously worked for them from 1989 to 1999. John was a people person, and he spent many years working in various retail establishments. John was also employed as a Bailiff for the Baltimore city Circuit Court and worked previously for the Maryland State Public Defender’s Office.John was a prankster. He was always ‘clowning”. He could always make us laugh with one of his many jokes, stories or an occasional magic trick. He especially enjoyed playing tricks on his nephews, Joshua and Ethan. Holidays were always a special time for John and our family. John enjoyed reminiscing about pass times with his step-father Joe Henley, Sr. and his maternal grandmother Agnes Watts. John was an accomplished artist who had several of his original paintings shown at local galleries, such as the James E. Lewis Gallery at Morgan State University. He was Renaissance man who played he guitar and actually had a small part in the major motion picture movie entitled, “King”.John was a health and fitness guru who exercised regularly at Bally’s Fitness, where he fell ill. He was an organ donor, and as a testament to his great physique and phenomenal graciousness, his heart, lung, kidneys, and liver were all matched with five transplant recipients. As a child of God, John was most passionate about his participation in the New Psalmist Baptist Church’s Discipleship Ministry. John had an unbounded enthusiasm and love for his New Psalmist family, and it is with them that we celebrate his life today.He leaves to mourn: his loving mother Martha W Henley; his beloved companion, Susanne Hopkins; his brothers, Steve and Joey; his sisters-in-law, Josef Miller and Monica Wharton- Henley; his nephews, Joshua and Ethan; and a host of other relatives and friends.
