John Alton Craddock

John Alton Craddock, born June 3, 1930, went home to be with his Savior on November 5, 2015. John is survived by his wife of 61 years, Sarah G. Craddock and his sons, Larry and Kenneth Craddock. He is also survived by six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and many relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Lisa Y. Craddock and his son, Ronald W. Craddock, Sr. John is the last of the children born to the late Lee Harrison Craddock and Estelle Jones Craddock to cross over with the Lord. John was raised in a God fearing home and in his later years, became a member of Little Elam Baptist Church. Once John committed his life to Christ, he was “all in”. He often received the Perfect Attendance Award for Sunday School and was a regular presence at the morning worship service until he was injured in a logging accident several years ago. John served in the United States Army and was a long-distance truck driver for practically his entire life. He loved his “Peterbuilt”! Is handle was “Candyman”and even after being injured, he would often talk about taking his truck out on another run. John loved his family and was an excellent provider and protector until he was injured, which placed them in the position of caring for him. While we are saddened about his passing, we also give thanks to God! Given the medical facts John should not have survived the accident. But, God had other plans. John was a warrior! His injuries and compromised his body, but they did not take his mind or spirit! It His smile and pleasing personality were easily his best weapons against “doom and gloom”. In fact, if you thought you were going to visit him to cheer him up, it almost always worked out the other way, he cheered you up. He has been an example to us of how to graciously deal with adversity and how to love unconditionally. These are Christ-like characteristics-To God Be The Glory! John was a loving, jovial, fun person. He was always smiling and willing to share a laugh, or cause one. He had a great sense of humor even at the end, you could catch that little mischievous look on his face that let you know his mind was racing, and he was getting ready to say something that would truly make you laugh. His sense of humor is most evident in his habit of creating his own nickname for people- nicknames that had absolutely nothing to do with their real names. Those that he called Goochie, Saber, Rantool, Dimas, Skeet, Esau, Dudley, Peachface and Bo, just to name a few, can attest to that. We thank God for John and we praise God for his life. We have been blessed to know him and to be loved by him. He was the exemplification of the fruit of the spirit- love, joy, peace, long-suffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. This is the legacy he leaves to his family and to those who knew him well. And He said to me “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast my infirmities; the power of Christ may rest upon. 2 Corinthians 12:9
