John Brown

John Brown, beloved son of Basil and Elnora Brown was born on October 14, 1925 in Baltimore, Maryland. One of nine children, he was brought up in a Christian home environment and learned at an early age the beauty and wisdom of walking with the Lord, things he later taught his own children. He was educated in Baltimore City Public Schools and later employed by Bethlehem Steel at Sparrows Point, where he remained for more that 30 years until his retirement.In 1946 he was joined in holy matrimony to the late Daisy Mae (Price) (who preceded him in death on September 28, 1987). From this beautiful union of 41 years, they were blessed with four sons. One son, Willie, preceded him in death. In the 1950’s Daisy Mae joined First Apostolic Faith Church under the leadership of the late Bishop Winfield Showell. Shortly thereafter, John Brown accepted Christ at the same church.In the early 1960’s Elder John Brown was commissioned as Elder in The Holy Tabernacle of God, headquartered in Columbus, Ohio and served as Assistant Pastor under the leadership of Bishop John L. Cobb. In 1965 Elder Brown founded Miracle Tabernacle of God, where he faithfully served his congregation, his family and his neighbors. Under his leadership, the Word of God was preached mightily and many souls have been led to Christ. Considered the elder statesman of the family. Elder Brown’s compassionate leadership has been a blessingTo family and acquaintances. He could always be looked to for spiritual guidance and wise counsel from the Word of God. He was never too busy for those in need, often reaching into his own pockets to help. He was a warm, friendly person, one who could light up a room with his thunderous voice and gentle presence.In 2003, he married his best friend of eight years, the former Brenda D. Jones-Jerome. The love they shared made them inseparable even while struggling with his illness. Speaking of their born, he quoted scripture, “ Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and thing, and obtainedth favour of the Lord” (Prov. 18:22). They often laughed about a close friend’s remark; “She won’t let Rev. Brown out of her sight”. A strong-willed woman with a deep love for Christ, she vows to continue the work her husband started.On Sunday, August 1, 2004 Elder John Brown peacefully departed this life for a better home. His departure epitomized one of his favorite scriptures, “ I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at the day: (II Timothy 4:7,8)He leaves to cherish his memories a devoted wife, Brenda; three sons, Thomas Raymond and Halcon; 7 grand-children, 13 great-grandchildren, one brother, Freddie Brown; one sister, Mamie Johnson; four daughters-in-law; Brenda, Loretta, Geraldine and Leola; two brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives, friends and church family.
