John Lewis Brice, Sr.

Our Beloved John Lewis Brice, Sr. was born on July 15, 1933 in Louisa, Virginia to the late Charles and Caroline Brice. John was preceded in death by his foster daughter, Alfreda Bragg Eppes and brothers, Charlie and Robert Brice. Our Beloved John received his Angel wings and went home to be with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Monday, November 28, 2011. Our Beloved John was educated in Louisa County Public Schools. He graduated from Louisa Training High School in 1950, where he met and fell in love with his soon to be wife. Our Beloved John accepted Christ at an early age. John was baptized and was a long standing member and Deacon of Mt. Garland Baptist Church in Louisa, Virginia. Our Beloved John was a veteran of the United States Army and served in the Korean War. While in the service, John earned several medals; Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, Airforce Outstanding Unit Award and was certified as a pole lineman. Our Beloved John was united in holy matrimony on May 7, 1955 to Katie Mae Holmes. From their union, two sons and four daughters were born. At the time of his death, they had celebrated 56 years of martial bliss. Our Beloved John was a very dedicated, hard working and knowledgeable man. John was previously employed with Consolidated Bank and Freelander Mortgage Company. John started his own business called “Brice’s Remodeling Company.” John successfully owned and operated his business until retirement. Our Beloved John is admired and well loved by his family and friends. John is well respected by all in his community. John’s life experiences afforded him the opportunity to share friendly conversation with all who knew him, young and old. Among his friends are several devoted, Ms. Viola Newton, Mr. James “Jake” Adams and Mr.& Mrs. Dave Brown. Our Beloved John leaves to cherish his memory, a loving and devoted wife, Katie Holmes Brice; two sons, John, Jr. and William, Sr. (Gwen); four daughters, Deborah Hatcher (Jerome, Sr.), Sheila Pryor (Linnie, III), Yolanda Brice-West and Aljawana Atkins; 17 grandchildren, John, III, devoted (Ronicia), Tanya (Jerrell), Jermone, Jerome, Jr.(Arleigh), LaKeisha, Taneisha, Jermeka, Donnell, William, Jr., Linnie, IV, Shannon, JaQuan, Alicia, Alexis, Reginald, Alexander and Monica; 12 great-grandchildren, Quiondre’, QueJohna, Zareon, Tachalla, Sher’Niya, Jer’Niya, Ze’Rihana, Kayla, Carae, Kaiden, Laila and Jasmine; four sisters, Dorothy Chandler, Flornetta Worden, Celia Meredith and Margaret Gary; three brothers, James (Sheila), William and Daniel (Cathy) Brice; three brother in laws, William (Alethia), George and James (Fannie) Holmes; caregiver, RaeShaun Jones and American Home Care and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
