John R. Bolden

John Robert Bolden was born on June 21, 1943, to the late Irene F. Baker and Alexander Tyree, in Buckingham County, Virginia. John was affectionately called "Fatso" by his close family and friends as a child. John received his early education and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School. In 1964, John served in the United States Army. Beginning his career at the McCormick Company, John was always a diligent worker. For over thirty years, he operated tractor trailers as long distance driver for Mushroom, as well as Reice Trucking Company. A man with a dream, John became an entrepreneur when he opened up JB Corner store, where all the neighborhood children ran for candy and snowballs. Until he was called home, John owned and operated Bolden's Moving, Hauling and Landscaping. One of John's favorite hobbies was talking on the CB's, where his handle name was "Nailclipper". He also found much pleasure in hunting, playing pool, and coaching baseball. For over twenty years, John was an active member of Prince Hall Masonic Lodge in Baltimore, Maryland. In Dillwyn, Virginia, John was baptized and accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at Zion Baptist Church. His favorite scriptures were Matthews 24 and Psalms 23. After a lengthy illness, God called John home to rest on the morning of September 12, 2018. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his daughter, Tareta Bolden; son, Purnell Lawrence; one brother, Willie Bolden; four brothers-in-law, Walter Morris, Phillip Morris, Larry Morris, and Kirk Morris; and three sisters-in-law, Mary Summers, Carolyn Mack, and Barabara Ferguson. He leavers to cherish his memory: a devoted wife, Sandra Bolden; three daughters, Sabreta Gilmore, Tonya Jones, and Lucille Ross; one son, Jermaine Bolden; one sister, Sharon Baker; one son-in-law, Richard Jones; two brothers-in-law, Steven Morris (Dale) and Darrell Morris; eleven grandchildren, Dana, shantira, Marche', Taylor, Jaden, Jorden, Janaya, Jamille, Jaylin, Jace, and Mason; four great-grandchildren, Rhian, Zion, Da'Carlo, Karter; a loving aunt, Doris Bolden; and a host of other nieces, nephews, family members, and friends.
