Joelle S. Carter

Joelle Sophia Carter, daughter of the late Melton and Adele Carter, departed this life on April 26, 2016 at home surrounded by her loving family and friends. Growing up in a God fearing home, Joelle dedicated her life to Christ at an early age, under the leadership of the late Reverend John Brown. Joe, as she was affectionately known by all who knew and loved her, received her primary education in the Baltimore City Public School System. Joe was an avid athlete who enjoyed basketball, a sport in which she excelled at in high school. Joe's passion for helping others blossomed at an early age. She applied to and was accepted at Temple University with major in Pre-Medicine. She uprooted and moved to Philadelphia where she attended Temple with dreams of becoming a doctor. She lived with Carrie, and later formed a sister-cousin bond with Diane Feaster. Joe held numerous positions in the medical field. Most memorable, as a tech at JHH ER and a s an EMT rider in Baltimore City. Joe later worked for Meals on Wheels until her health failed. Later, Joe re-dedicated her life to Christ and joined Greater Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Reginald Thomas. She enjoyed noon time bible study and was hopeful to begin discipleship class. With her ailing health, she was unable to do so. Joe TRULY loved her family. She was dedicated to them all until her time ended here on earth. Although she never bore any children of her own, she raised most of her nieces and nephews, and served as a mother figure to them all. She would call them almost daily to remind them to always say their prayers at night and ask God for whatever is needed. Those memories will be cherished forever. She served in her community caring for the elderly, many of whom watched her grow into an adult. She had an unforgettable smile, which shined even on her worst days. A golden heart which touched the lives of many will forever be missed. Her parents Melton and Adele Carter, two brothers Nicholas and Michael Carter, and sister Betty Carter all preceded her in death. She leaves to mourn her loss to cherish her memory and rejoice in a soul set: two brothers, Milton (Patricia) Carter and Gordon (Jenny) Carter; two sisters, Jean and Eugenia Carter; sister-in-law, Juanita (Winnie); uncle, jake Price; seven nieces, ten nephews, sixteen great-nieces, and nine great-nephews; two special cousins, Bernice Sellers, and Robert Price; special and dedicated friend, Terry Rogers; and a host of other family members, too numerous to name. She will truly be missed by all.
