Joel J. Williams

Joel Jerome Williams, son of Doretha and the late Joseph Williams, was born on January 23, 1959 in Baltimore, Maryland. He departed this life on January 4, 2002, after a long and courageous battle with a severe heart condition. Upon completion of his education at Baltimore City College, Joel (lovingly known as “Butch”) obtained employment at Best, Products as a Warehouse Manager. After ten years of faithful service at Best, he assumed the position of Automotive Manager at Sam’s Club (previously Pace), where he remained for seven years before retiring due to his illness. During this period, he also met and married the former Denise Alexander. To those who knew and loved him, Butch was a “gentle giant”, quiet and loving, with a genuine caring spirit. He especially loved children and spending many pleasurable hours with his grandchildren, godchild, nieces and nephews. He was always a true friend and a devoted family man. He enjoyed public service, working on cars, doing odd jobs around the house, and could fix just about anything. Like his late father and brothers, he also loved a good joke and spending time in North Carolina. It was very rare that one, if not all of them, would leap into their cars and as they say “go down the country”. Butch basically loved life and never lost his faith. He made numerous friends wherever he went and will be sincerely missed by everyone who knew him. He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Denise C. Williams, two stepsons, Randolph Chilson and Craig Hunter; four grandchildren, Randy III, Monet, Mikhayla and Lil Craig; one godchild, Calliope Hutsnell; his loving mother, Doretha Williams; his mother-in-law, Lorraine Alexander; six sisters, Mary, Carolyn, Claytee, Johanna, Elizabeth and Hazel; five brothers, Henry, Spencer, Kirby, Mike and Willie, five sisters-in-law, Cornelia, Linda, Grace, Deanna and Deborah; four brothers-in-law, Gary, Leonard, David and Milton; nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.“WITHOUT WARNING”You may wonder why I went away and failed to say goodbye,I couldn’t bear to tell you, for it upsets me when you cry;My ship came in early and it was beautiful to see,For the Captain was King Jesus and He safely beckoned me;I hurried through the portal and fell humbly at His feet,He gently took me in His arms and now all is complete.
