Joe Davis Harris

On the morning of Monday, August 19, 2013, our dearly beloved JOE D. HARRIS departed this life. He was born in Williamston, NC, the son of the late Lenora Harris Purcell and Robert Bonds. Joe was united in Holy Matrimony to Mae Resa Jukes on March 16, 1962. The union was blessed with three children; Andrea Robert Sr., and Lynette. He children were his jewels which he shined with his love and commitment to be the best father to them. Joe received his education in the public school of Martin County (Williamston, NC) where he played football in high school, which was his favorite sport. He loved the game! Joe moved with his family to Baltimore, Maryland in 1958. At the age of 17, he began working for The Mill End Shop in downtown Baltimore. He worked there for several years until he found a desire for a living. He drove a taxicab for many years before getting his CDL license. Joe drove tractor trailers until his retirement. Joe eccepted Christ at an early age at Cedar Hill Baptist Church in Williamston, NC. He later jointed 1st Mt. Olive Freewill Baptist Church in Baltimore, MD where he attended until his wife became ill. He was a loyal and faithful member if several organizations. He loved and enjoyed being with his family. He was a dedicated and devoted son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend! Joe will always be remembered by that infectious laugh that would resonate throughout the room, his unveiling physical strength, his warm heartedness and kind ways. He was preceded by his wife Mae Resa, daughter Andrea, his brothers, Nelson and Purvis Jr. and his parents. He leaves to cherish his memories: son Robert Sr. (Hampton, Va) daughter Lynette Harris (Baltimore, MD) daughter-in-law Portia Harris; sisters Dorina Strickland, Loretta Miller (Jeffrey), Carolyn Turner (Leslie), Sharon Purcell, Delores (New Jersey) and Rachelle Bonds (Baltimore, MD), grandchildren Kylin Gladden, Marquice Barnes, Kinalyn Gladden, Robert Harris Jr., Rakeem Harris, Mikeiya Leach, Raekwon Harris and Danesha Dunmore; 3 great-grandchildren, sister-in-laws Stella Ware and Patricia Roy (David), Normas and Leroy Jukes and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
