Joe Cates

Obituary l have fought a good fight I have finished my course I have kept the faith II Timothy 4-7 Joe Cates Jr. affectionately known as "Big Daddy" to family and friends, transitioned peacefully on Saturday, September 2, 2023, at Bon Secours Memorial Regional Hospital in Hanover Virginia. He was born to the late Joe and Clara Cates on January 19, 1959, in Hudson County Jersey City, New Jersey. He was united in holy matrimony to Christi! D. Cates on December 21, 2002. Christi! was a loving and devoted wife who aided him during his lengthy illness. He was also the father to a beautiful daughter Mi&s Jovonna Cates. Joe received his early education in the Chesterfield school system and graduated in the class of 1977 from Matoaca High School in Chesterfield Virginia. He was a former employee of Pete Rose and Associates. Joe was a loving and devoted father and "Naughty Pa" as his grandson Jaiden called him. He was an avid fisherman and sports fan, especially the LA Lakers, Washington Commanders, and his all-time favorite team the Las Vegas Raiders. He loved reggae music and often spent time relaxing in his garage soaking up the reggae sound. Joe and ChristiI loved fishing together and watching football. He was great to his neighbors by often mowing their lawns and being the neighborhood watch. He had a love for cooking and often baked cakes for the staff at Memorial Regional Hospital. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him. Joe was preceded in death by his parents Joe and Clara Cates, brother Ronald Cates, paternal grandparents Joseph and Maggie Cates, maternal grandparents Simon and Hattie Clark, mother-in-law Reverend Doris Batts, and father-in-law Jodie Blowe, Jr. Joe leaves to cherish his memories his dedicated and loving wife Christi! Cates, daughter Jovonna Cates, grandson Jaiden Worth, sister Carolyn Wynn, brothers Samuel and Harold Cates, sister-in-law Monica DeBerry (Brian DeBerry-deceased), brothers-in law Jodies Blowe, Demetrius Blowe (Tammy), aunts Marie Clark, and Mary Clark, nieces Marchita Cates, Nakimba Briggs, Krystal Briggs, one great nephew 0marion Pettaway, great nieces Jaylynn Young, Destiny Briggs, Jayda Briggs, and a host of other family members.
