Joann Barber

Ms. Joann Barber 84 peacefully ascended to her external home on Monday, May 20, 2024. She was born on March 2, 1940, in Albemarle County, Virginia to Charlie Barbour and Ella Betsy Miller Mitchell. She was preceded in death by one son, Michael A. Barber, two sisters Delores D. Washington and Pattie Miller: four brothers Hurley and Robert Williams, Harold W. and Billy Barbour. Joann attended Pleasant View United Methodist Church, where she served in numerous roles: serving in the Gospel Choir as on the Usher and Trustee Board, Head of Communion Steward, and Kitchen Committee. She remained a faithful member until her health failed. After furthering her education, Joann worked for General Electric as Plant Operator, where she retired after serving for over 32 years. Joann dedicated many years to her career before retiring. Never one to rest on her successes, she found a new purpose in her retirement years by working diligently to clean housing, ensuring that many families had a comfortable and welcoming place to call home. Her commitment to hard work and her attention to detail were evident in every space she touched. In addition to her work, Joann had a zest for life that was truly inspiring. She spent much of her retirement traveling the world, creating unforgettable memories with her beloved niece Crystal Williams and grandniece Chi’yere Williams. There they shared passion for sports and took them to events across the globe, where they celebrated victories, consoled each other in losses, and cherished every moment together. These adventures were a testament to her adventurous spirit and her love for her family. Joann had an extraordinary ability to find joy in the simple pleasures of life. Her love for music took her to countless concerts, where she reveled in the performances of old bands that played the tunes of her youth. Her weekends were often spent exploring yard sales, where she delighted in finding hidden treasures and bargains. Spending time with friends, shopping, finding and trying new restaurants along with her favorite pizza place The Parrot and breakfast at The Villa in Charlottesville, VA with her sister-in-law Phyllis Williams. And please do not forget “Spacebook” where she found time to say, “her family” and she “loves you”. Joann was a devoted member of her church community, attending functions and gatherings that enriched her spiritual life and provided her with a sense of belonging and purpose. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, guiding her actions and inspiring those around her. She leaves to cherish her loving memory, one daughter, Cassandra K. Barber; one granddaughter, Chaneika W. Barber, one brother Charles Barbour and Kathy; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. A celebration of life service will be held on Thursday, May 30, 2024, 11:00am, at Main Street Methodist Church, 601 W Main Street Waynesboro, VA 22980. Interment Riverview Cemetery, 420 Rosser Ave, Waynesboro, VA 22980. Joann was known for shedding light on everyone with her presence and gleaming smile, her warm heart, and unwavering support for those she loved. Her family and friends will forever remember her as a beacon of bluntness, strength, and kindness. She leaves behind a legacy of love that will continue to inspire all who knew her. Her family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to all who have provided support and comfort during this time. Joann’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved her, and she will be dearly missed. Rest in peace, Joann. Your journey was remarkable, and your love remains everlasting.
