Joan Pinkney

Joan Delores Saunders Pinkney gracefully transitioned to her Heavenly Home at the age of 81 on Monday, July 31, 2023, in Baltimore, Maryland. She passed away surrounded by her cherished loved ones, leaving behind a void that will be deeply felt. Joan was an exceptional woman with a bold personality. She embodied strength, courage, vivacity, faith, and boundless love. Born on February 2, 1942, Joan spent her formative years in Baltimore, Maryland, under the care of her parents, Estelle Brown and John Wise. She was the youngest girl of four. Her siblings were Agnes, Ruth, and Dwight. On August 16, 1975, Joan united with Quinton Alton Pinkney in matrimony. Their union was a source of love and partnership that thrived through the years. Together, Joan and Quinton nurtured and raised three children—Desiree, Darrel, and Dwight—who, in turn, blessed them with five beloved grandchildren, whom she also raised. Family was the cornerstone of Joan's life, and her devotion as a mother and grandmother was a guiding light that inspired all who knew her. Joan pursued higher education at Morgan State University and dedicated over four decades to serving the State of Maryland in various capacities, earning a legacy of professional accomplishment and dedication. However, the title that truly defined her was that of a mother and friend. Joan's unwavering support, compassionate nature, and willingness to lend a helping hand or a listening ear endeared her to countless hearts she touched along her journey. Joan leaves behind a legacy of love that will be cherished forever by her nieces Joy Collins and Kim Lee, treasured grandchildren—Ryan Saunders, Brittney Pinkney, Bridgett Williams, Jesika Laster Currie, and Erika Pinkney—and great-grandchildren—Kai Saunders, Vashaun Saunders, Britten Williams, Saniyah Mayo, London, and Asia Williams. As they navigate life without her physical presence, her spirit and memories will continue to provide comfort and strength. In honoring Joan's memory, let us remember the lessons she taught through her actions—how to love fiercely, stand resilient in the face of challenges, and embrace each day with a vibrant spirit.
