Joan Elizabeth Hinton

A TIME TO BE BORN JOAN ELIZABETH HINTON was born on November 17, 1940, in Baltimore, Maryland to the late Joshua and Mary Jane Hinton. To this union, two children were born, with Joan as the oldest. She was destined to lead with purpose. Joan was the oldest matriarch of the Wells, Hinton and Butler family. A TIME TO LOVE Sixty-two years ago, God blessed Joan and Donald with a beautiful bouncing baby boy, Gary was born on June 25, 1961. Gary was the love of her life. Gary was taught by his mother (Ma, Joanie, and Mrs. Joan) responsibility, commitment, respect, accountability and true love. Her love did not stop there, Joan Believed that God blessed her with double blessings with Gary Jr. (Little Gary). A TIME TO LEARN Joan attended Baltimore City Public Schools and graduated from Dunbar High School. After high school, she attended Baltimore City Community College, where she studied Business Administration and received an Associate's degree, Joan worked as a supervisor for London Fog and Social Security Administration. Joan retired from Social Security Administration after 45 years of service. A TIME OF SALVATION The family attended Moun Zion Baptist Church. At an early age Joan accepted Christ and was baptized. Due to Joan’s spiritual growth and development she became a faithful member of Mount Zion Hill Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Marvin McFadden. Joan served as the president of Nurses Guild Auxiliary for 40 years. A TIME TO LAUGH Joan was full of life and a giver to many. She loved shopping, dancing, getting her nails done, attending parties, visiting the social clubs and enjoying the family fellowships. Joan loved celebrating her birthday. Joan love to travel with her four girlfriends; Sylvia, Vivian, Mary and Lois. Joan enjoyed driving and riding cross country in her Cadillac with John Wilson who preceded her in death. Some of her favorite televisions were watching basketball with her son Gary. Dancing with the Stars, Young and the Restless, Bold and the Beautiful. She loved talking with her cousin, Beverly 24 hours a day about the soap operas. Her beautiful smile, generous heart and warm spirit brought joy to all who knew her. She was a lovable and vibrant woman who will be greatly missed. A TIME TO REST On May 17, 2024, God called His faithful and beloved servant Joan Elizabeth Hinton home to be with Her Lord and Savior. She fought a good fight, finished her course and kept the faith. - 2 Timothy 4:7 A TIME TO CHERISH Our beloved matriarch leaves to reflect and cherish her memory: her devoted son Gary; grandson, Gary Jr.; two close cousins, Beverly Williams (sister) and William Wells (brother); and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Additionally, she maintained a lifelong friendship with Sylvia, Vivian, Mary and Lois. Joan is predeceased by her parents Joshua and Jane Hinton, grandmother Catherine Mariah Wells, sister Doris Edmunndson, brother-in-law Zebedee Edmundson, and John Wilson, the love of her life
