Jesse Wheeler

For I am ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight. I have finished my course; I have kept my faith. II Timothy 4:6-7 A Time to be Born Jesse Wheeler was born on May 13, 1944 to the late Katie Robinson Taylor and Leland Etheridge. Following the death of his mother, he was raised by Ellen Etheridge (Fannie) and Leland Etheridge. He had twelve siblings some whom preceded him in death. A Time to Live Jesse received his formal education in Baltimore City Public Schools. Jesse married his best friend Sharon Streat on June 19, 1965 and from that union four children were born; Fonda, Derek, Aaron and Darron Wheeler. Jesse was a surrogate father to many children in the neighborhood, a football coach, and a chauffeur to track practice. He loved his family and loved family gatherings for the holidays. Jesse loved to read about African American History, to sing and to dance. He loved working with flowers and planted beautiful flowerbeds around the apartment complex where he resided. Jesse was a man of many trades and wore many hats. He worked at Bethlehem Steel, Acme Foods, News American Newspaper, National Life Insurance and he drove cabs. He retired from Baltimore City Public Schools after many years working to support his family. Jesse was an advocate for education and encouraged his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren to always do their best in school. He loved the Lord and depended on the Lord for his strength. A Time to Die Early Friday September 26, 2014, God sent his angels to get a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. Jesse went home to be with the Lord. A Time to Mourn He leaves to cherish his memories his wife of 49 years, Sharon, his children Fonda (Calvin), Derek, Aaron (Desiree) and Darron (Keri). His grandchildren, Little Derek, Brandon, Devin, Kolby, Dereka, Ryan, Jaden, Jordan, Miles, Michael, Ethan, Marcus; and great grand daughters, Kimora, Braelynn, Danell and Aalyia; three sisters Shirley Mercer, Janice Taylor and Anita Clark; and one brother Benny Wheeler and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
