Jesse Martin

Jesse Martin was born in Union South Carolina to the late David and Eliwillie Martin. He entered this world on June 21, 1939 with a twin brother Johnny, who departed this life on October 30, 1988, and Jesse was called home on January 30, 2017. He received his religious education at a very early age in South Carolina. He graduated from Sims High School in Union, S.C. Later, he relocated to Baltimore, Maryland where he went to Cosmetology School. He graduated and became a hair Stylist for three years. This career was interrupted only by his serving two years in the United States Army. Upon his return, he studied pottery at Catonsville Community College for 18 months. He met and married the former Kathy Brown and out of this union three children were born, Keith, Quinn, and Jessica. He continued to use his talent as a hair stylist for Joseph Russ Funeral Home for many years. He worked at Morgan State College which became Morgan State University for 45 years. Jesse Martin became a member of Grace Presbyterian Church where he lovingly served within the ministry of the Church. He was a Deacon for 15 years, loved keeping the grounds, lawn and planting flowers. He denoted his time, skills and talent to the care of the Fellowship Hall by cleaning and keeping the floor shinning. One of Jesse's favorite hobbies was gardening. Some felt that he was a master but he enjoyed working with his hands, keeping the yard beautiful, growing vegetables taking them house to house sharing them with his neighbors and friends. Jesse's faith in the Lord was the building block of how he lived his live. He always said..."if you want respect you have to give respect by loving others." "Love God and love your neighbor". That is how he lived his life loving others, his family, children, grandchildren, and great grands. His greatest dream was to become a pianist and sing with his beautiful melodious voice perhaps like his mother who played the piano and sang like a mockingbird. The memory of Jesse Martin will be held in the heart of all who knew him. To cherish his memory his wife Kathy B. Martin, two sons Keith (Ayn) and Quinn (Shahidah), one daughter Jessica, step daughter Roma Matthews, Two sisters: Bessie Ferguson of Union, S.C., Nita Holloway of Hilo, Hawaii and one brother Willie Martin of Pittsburg, PA. Grandchildren: Rachel Martin (Malik), Precious Martin, Kathy J. Martin, Kyra Martin, Nya Martin, Keith Martin, Jr., and Khamran David Martin. Great Grand Children: Caleah Martin, Gabriel and Robinson. Two Step Great Grand sons: Khalil Houston and Khari Houston. Adopted son Scottie Davis, God Children Edward and Angie Black, devoted nephew James Fincher of Spartanburg, S.C. and a host of family and friends.
